Is it normal that my best friend lies to me about this?

My best friend lies to me alot. She's saying things that I know are clearly lies, but I don't want to heart her feelings by outright stating that she's lying. She is INSANELY insecure. She is saying stuff like that she works at the Rainbow Factory and has to go there at 1 am until she's got to leave for school. (If you don't know what it is look up rainbow factory on YouTube.) She also said that our guy friend kissed her the other night when he was with me the entire time. On that same point, she said that they also had sex and she was no longer a virgin. I've been trying to subtly let know that I know she's lying but she doesn't get it! I also tried to show her how her lies have been affecting me but she either doesn't notice, or doesn't care. What should I do? I want to call her out on these lies but I'm afraid to hurt her feelings. She's one of my best friend and I'd hate for us to not be friends because she lied and I finally told her the truth. Please help me!

    Yeah. My best friend used to lie a lot. We aren't friends anymore because she can't trust me.

    Lol. Seriously.

    There's nothing you can really do if a person is constantly lying to you. It took me a long time to recognize that she just did it without reason.

    aren't you being hurt by being lied on? It's best to fix it before it gets worse. try to talk to her without saying anything like "you are a liar!" let her know that telling the truth is the best thing to prevent anything bad.

      i am being hurt by this lying, but it hasn't affected me all that much. Until today. Today I had to turn in a biography on her for a school project. I'm a straight A student, and i got my first F today AND i got in trouble.She lied to me about her ENTIRE life! When the counselor asked her about it, she threw me under the bus and said that she never told me those things and that i made them up. She is my best friend, but she is being a real jerk. I really don't know if we can be friends anymore. should i stop being friends with her?

        sounds like you two have been friends for a long time. I understand this is such a huge frustration to you. but friends don't last long if you just stop being friends from such things. having a CONVERSATION is the best thing. trust me, talking will resolve so many different problems. If the lying continues, then you should reconsider if you are her "friend". Please, make some time alone with her and talk to her about this. Remember she's really used to lying. Don't try to make her stop all of the sudden; let her know it's okay to tell the truth and be there for her. Once you go through this, you and her will be best friends for life :)

        To the teacher/counselor, let her know what happened and get another chance (explain what exactly happened and at least tell her you do not deserve an "F"). I'm sure she'll let you do something to fix that.

    Lying doesn't make you a bad friend , one of my best friends always lies to everyone , he just likes to impress people but I know he is real bull shit but I have just learned to deal with his lies

    I think I'm just gonna have to stop hanging out with her. She is staying to scare me. She said something really creepy talking about one of my friends that recently moved away and hasn't contacted me. She said that she took him to the rainbow factory and turned him into last Sunday's rainbow and that is why he hasn't talked to me.

    A pathological liar isn't insecure, they don't know anything about emotion or feeling at all.

    They live in an ever changing dream beyond truth or consequence, that's why they are such good liars, because they don't even know they are doing it.

    I find that when you've spoken to one for awhile you come away feeling like you've been hanging out with a ghost. Because there seems to be no real personality structure to identify with and form a conection. They tend to act like fools, but when you scrape it away you still can't see who they are clearly, it makes me uncomfortable as hell.

    Underneath all the shit they talk they seem to give off a creepy vibe, especially female PL's, fucking spooks.

        I've always taken a great interest in human behaviour, and know several PL's. They are quite common, but because one has to know them quite well to pick up on it we don't often notice them among us. It wouldn't surprise me that it describes your friend, she sounds more or less like a textbook PL.
