Is it normal that my best friend is a stuffed gorilla?
Please read the whole thing before you jump to conclusions ;)
I'm an 18-year old male, just turned 18 in fact. I have plenty of great friends at school, I'm quite popular actually, but none of them are good enough friends to be a BEST friend. I hang out with them pretty often though.
In reality, my true best friend of all is a stuffed gorilla I purchased from London Zoo. His name is Matthew and he sits on my computer desk. Hold on, let me just turn him round so he can see what I'm typing... there we go.
I talk to Matthew every day, he's always there for me. We listen to music together and we watch YouTube videos together. He eats sliced bananas, but he's also partial to marshmallows, which I share with him when I buy them.
I take along for the ride when we go out on family trips (he rides on my back). I give him a goodnight hug before bed and a morning hug when I wake up. At Christmas, I buy him a gift and he buys a gift for me and my 11-year old sister. Last year he got us Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii. What a friend, eh?
He's an excellent friend, a friend for life, and he also gets on well with my other mates if they come round as well. He's not just a toy, he's actually part of the family, and always will be. I've made him real through imagination. He's real in my eyes.
But a thought struck me today. Is it normal that out of all the friends I have, my best one is a stuffed gorilla? I'd like to hear some opinions. Matthew agrees that this a pretty good question, as you'd expect his best friend to be a stuffed gorilla, but nope, it's me, a human, and he'd like to know if it's normal too.
Oh, and by the way, Matthew also says "Hi!" and that this is a cool website. He's seen me on it before a few times.
