Is it normal that my best friend hasn't dated me yet?

I have known him for almost two years. We have been really close, we talk about almost everything together. We have had the conversation about liking each other multiple times. He says that he does like me but he doesn't want to hurt me or date me right now. I have dated a lot since I've known him and he has always been jealous and even helped me break up with a couple of my boyfriends. About two weeks ago I found out (not because he wanted to tell me) that he was seeing someone, I don't know if he still is seeing this girl though. He asked me to be honest and I told him that I was slightly upset that he was seeing someone. We have talked since but not a lot. He will answer me if I text him but he doesn't text me first much lately. He seems kinda depressed too because he's not being very social lately. He really confuses me so I would just like to know if this is normal.

    Sorry to say but he is not that into you.

    Dating a friend can also mess up a friendship.

    For me personally there must be that physical attraction to take it further than friendship.

    I like a lot of girls,but don`t want to date them all.Give him space to make his own choices.

    Interesting. I'm in a similar situation with my best friend. We had 'the talk' and he said he simply values my friendship too much - I think the commitment factor for men to date women they appreciate so much is just too overwhelming. I mean, unless you ended up getting married or something, you'd eventually break up and almost certainly lose the friendship. For me it's very difficult as I'm deeply in love with this guy and the idea that I'll eventually get shunted aside when he finally commits to a relationship with another girl is heartbreaking. But all I can do is try to accept it, and remember that I'll privileged to have the love and respect of someone who means so much to me - I feel your pain, but advise you to try the same.
