Is it normal that my bed shakes as i'm about to fall asleep.

This has only happened like 5 or 6 times but it scares me everytime it happens. Right as I'm about to fall asleep my bed will start to shake as if there's something under it but my bed is on the floor. I'm not dreaming because I know I'm awake when it happens, but I'm afraid to try and fall asleep now. Has this ever happened to anyone or anything like this?

I've got this a couple of times too. I think it may be the same kind of thing as the whole feeling of falling and suddenly waking up shenanigan.

I heard it said before that just as your body is falling asleep your brain sends impulses to your muscles causing you to twitch or jerk violently and wake up. It's to make sure that you are not actually dying but just sleeping. While this is happening you could just be dreaming that your bed is shaking.

You are leaving your body. Same thing happens in astral projection

Its NOT 'paranormal activity', since that's ridiculous!

Its your own body 'falling' to sleep. You just tend to shake a little, like you are shaking off the day. The only thing is its done subconsciously so you THINK the bed is shaking, when its NOT.

It could be due to a variety of reasons.

Check your bed to make sure that it was properly put together and that the screws are tight. If this isn't a problem, it could be due to a construction flaw in your home or paranormal activity. If you suspect that it's paranormal activity, contact a professional psychic and see if he/she can get the "being" out of your house.

    Good Luck!

I've concluded that it must be my reflexes causing me to flail around, for whatever reason, causing the bed to shake and simultaneously wake me

it was either that or believe there was something under the bed. lol

This crops up on IIN every six months or so. I've had it (but so rarely that I always forget until someone brings it up). A few other people seem to have it too. None of us knew what it was, but we all thought it wasn't anything much to worry about.

Actually, thinking about it again, one of the times I had it turned out to be a very minor earthquake (which are happening world-wide pretty much all the time). Maybe some people are just more sensitive to them.

I'm pretty sure it's vertigo. The same way sometimes if you're laying down with your eyes closed it will feel like the room is spinning, or the bed is hurtling through space... it can also shake. Happened to me once, scared the hell out of me at first because we don't live anywhere near a fault line. Had a tremor in this town once and I didn't feel it. :P

I looked it up online after that and found similar stuff under symptoms of vertigo. :3

That's a good point. It never even crossed my mind. I'll bet that's what it is. I was reaching a bit with the earthquake stuff and I only half-believed myself. :D

Instead of trying to fall asleep in fear that your bed is going to fall apart, I recommend that you tighten up the screws.
