Is it normal that my acne prevents me from going outside?

Hi,

I'm 20. I have a mild case of acne. It's really embarrassing and it prevents me from going outside. I never go anywhere outside of the house unless I absolutely need to for whatever reason. And I don't even have a job because I'm too embarrassed of my acne. It's just that when I do actually go out in public, I feel like people are staring and laughing at me because of my acne. And I always feel the need to hide my face. Is this normal?

Get outside! Fresh air relieves stress and the sun gives you vitamin D which is good for the skin. It is normal to care about the way you look but not to the point of being shy about it.

At the beginning of the year, when I was also 20, I had horrible acne. Not mild or moderate, an awful case of forehead acne. My life pretty much ended. I stopped trying to be cute and even chopped off all my hair, literally leaving like a centimeter. What I know now, that I didn't realize then is...life goes on. You have to deal with it. People really dgaf about you or your acne. I tried the acne.org regimen and, for the most part, it worked. Do something about your problems. Don't just sit on the side lines waiting for things to get better. I did that, and while it is common, I never thought it was normal b/c it wasn't productive.

Sounds like body dismorphic disorder. I used to be similar, reach out and talk to people. Then sooner you deal with this the sooner your life improves

The dermatologist will determine the severity of your acne and will give you the proper treatment. Don't worry acne is a very common problem and hopefully your skin will clear up soon.

Everyone gets acne no one is really laughing or staring unless its really bad, and even if it's mildly bad, you should try things like aloe vera and tea tree oil. You should also try eating better (more fruits and vegetables) and drink more water.
