Is it normal that my 5 year old make non stop talk about plants?

My 5 year old is crazy about plants and trees. When he enters the house from school he brings a bunch of roadside flowers and weeds. He talks and talks about plants and only plants all time. right from mushrooms to banyan trees. Round the clock, he thinks of some plants in the garden and the fruits or flowers in it. He asks me so many questions about it. But some point I really get mad and really no idea whether I could explain the facts about the plants and nature as he is so weird. plz tell me is it normal at this age?

I think you've been given a gifted one there. I also think you need to put yourself out and learn about this for his sake. I don't want to intrude on your parenting, because you are the parent, not me, but I would love to have a kid like this.

    That is amazing!

You should check out "The Secret Life of Plants" if you haven't already.

Please don't be frustrated. Feed this his natural curiosity. For many kids it's dinosaurs. Yours is plants. Much more useful.

I agree with dappled. Just do a little research on the plants he asks about then you could sit down once or twice a week and make it a learning/ bonding experience with your child

that is adorable... a childs innocence. if you want to get mad, get mad if your child is sucked into the internet or curious about video games and tv violence in this day and age. but PLEASE, this child loves nature ... dont leave him hanging or he might get into other interests that you will surely swallow your words.

Take a trip to the library with him a couple times a week. Reading books together about plants would be a good way to bond.

Already at five it is apparent that your child is smarter than you. Foster that, or fail as a parent and a person.
He is so weird? You get mad bc you can't answer his questions? Eh, what?? You are a SHITTY parent. Support your child's interests, he may grow up to be a great person in science.
Read a fucking book for once in your life and learn about the plants he is interested in. stop being a total LOSER and start being a good parent you dumb, lazy hag.

When I was little, I was obsessed with birds of different species, it is an obsession because at that time period your mind is like a sponge. Now I can say that because I was so interested in the sciences, it got me into Johns Hopkins Medical School for Biochemical Oncology. Your 5-year old is a child prodigy. Embrace him and he will go far :)

Be thankful that he is interested in SOMETHING! Instead of complaining, you should be nurturing this interest. Help him grow a garden or something. Could be full of flowers or veggies, just help him out. At least with a garden of veggies you could get something out of it, food. Buy him book on plants, or get him movies (maybe documentries) about plants. The internet is full of useful stuff! Google it! You will find ways to help him with his subject of interest and to help you too. Don't just sit there and get frustrated.

It's totally, completely NORMAL! And such a good thing! If he is that passionate about plants, try looking into some local children's programs for things like biology, botany, and things like that. They even have CAMPS for children who are into botany (plants) and whatnot. Also, he may be interested in landscaping and gardening, so be sure he knows, even at 5 years old, that his options are open and try looking into local kids events that may include the out doors or camping or gardening. He would love it, and it may give him an outlet and let him give you a break once in a while. =)

Aww you should encourage him. I know it might be exhausting at times... but all kids become obsessed with something at some point in their childhood. If it is not something you like to do... maybe you can talk to someone you know that loves to garden and that person can teach him. Take him to the library and let him check out books about plants. Also maybe you could let him pick out the vegitables for dinner, let him talk about if for a little bit, then switch the subject to something else. This honestly is a really beautiful thing to love...even though I am horrible at planting my self.

You should feed the fire, you never know where it will end! I was always obsessed by animals as a child, my parents nurtured my interest and I went on to get a degree in animal studies and now work full time with them plus I have quite a few other nifty qualifications that help along the way!

I wish I knew what fascinated me, and I'm an adult, if he loves something let him love it, its not like he's fascinated with skinning cats! You might even learn to appreciate plants more as you help him learn about it.
