Is it normal that my 20 year old brother is smarter than me ?

Is it normal that my 20 year old brother is very very smart (smarter than me ) in all areas (including socially ) when i'm a 28 year old , and people most of the time think that he is the older one (he even looks older than me )? , he can even be more knoweldgable than my 30 something brother and even my parents , he is very independent , more mature than when i was his age , knows alot about lots of things , sociable ,all this at only 20 years of age .

Does it really matter if he is smarter than you?

Age is a complex marker that we tend to be black and white about. We grow at different rates, learn at different rates, and our experiences shape this. Every once in awhile you meet the 15 year old teenager who has the social personality of a 40 year old. Life is crazy. He might just have a high level of common sense, academics are based on theory of current human knowledge(half of what we know will be wrong in ten years) met plenty of 'special' people with PHDs.

I'm a lot smarter than my sister, as far as sciences go. She doesn't understand physics... Or chemistry... Or anything hypothetical or mathmagical in the slightest. She is rather well read, however, and knows Latin, Greek, and is an excellent artist and general aetheticist. (she is 9 years older than me)
There should be some back and forth between you two. It seems you may be a bit less than bright, or he may just be a genius. In either case, anything is normal.

  • Is he still in school? If so that could be why he appears smart. When you go to school there are people that you can interact with, as opposed to outside of school. It's possible that he's smarter than you, but it's also possible that he looks like someone who is smart. Does that make sense?
