Is it normal that music snobs, genre fags, and hipsters piss me off?

I have this friend who ONLY listens to underground metal. I LOVE metal, but she's ridiculous. I mention I like Nightwish, she says "They're pop shit now that Tarja left" (I love both Nightwishes). I mention I like NIN "Trent's gone crap since he went mainstream".

The most irritating thing though is that she really jusges people for their tastes. I like whatever sounds good to my ear, whatever genre, but she calls ANYTHING that's popular, not metal, or too "Pop-like" crap, even when she hasn't heard their stuff.
She's called me a sheep on many occasions because I've heard chart music on the radio and enjoyed it, and has actually told me that I don't deserve to listen to the same music as her because I like popular stuff too.

Is it normal that I honestly hate her a lot of the time? She can be a really nice person but if you start talking about clothes or music to her she goes all high and mighty "I'M UNIQUE!!!!!!" (She's also a major Goth :/ I like the style but I wear other stuff too.)

She's also literally attacked people for "Copying" her.

    I have a friend who will only listen to country music. Won't even attempt to listen to anything else. I tell her taht in order for you to become a little less socially awkward she needs to expose herself to other genres of music. Pop, rock, alternative, etc. Not the same freaking chords on a steel guitar. ( I am not a fan of country music in the least). She still refuses. I don't understand. I listen to all kinds from pop to classical (save for country. I just can not stand it). Yes, you have to have an acquired taste for a certain genre. But to just listen to one kind? yeah, no thank you.
    And I am with whoever posted this. Nightwish is AMAZING! Both of them.
    So is Nine Inch Nails. :)

    The entire time I read your post, I was just going "THIS. THIS. THIS!!" in my head. I'm very open minded to music and I will like absolutely any song/genre/artist regardless as LONG as I like the way the song sounds. I hate it when people are such music snobs and limit themselves to only one genre and then put everyone else down for liking other things. I also hate it when people suddenly assumes that all "pop" music is crap. It doesn't make someone unique to go out of their way to like something totally different than everyone else, because lots of other lame kids are doing it too. I mean if you honestly like something, then there's nothing wrong with that... But sometimes it just seems like people will attach themselves to certain things for their own image.

    i hate the way people say "all rap sounds the same" as if they've actually heard enough of it to say that. no one song sounds the same & 10 million + songs certainly don't sound the same.

    people should just like what they like & let others do the same without hating.

      Fag is also another word for someone who's annoying or who likes a particular subject and doesn't accept anything else, I think. I.E. Metalfags, newfags, etc.
