Is it normal that most people, especially my girlfriend...

Sorry in advance for the lengthy post but I have cut so much out just to get to the point.

A majority of people that I know, including my girlfriend are so obsessed with media and networking get on my nerves because they tend to live their lives as followers? For example, my girlfriend is constantly on Facebook(I do not have an account) and watching Fox News that she refuses to watch anything that is educational or exploits the truth about the world.

Let us take this into consideration: I ask her why she wants to vote(I cannot vote because I am not an American citizen yet) for Mitt Romney and she just simply cannot give me a valid response as to why. She is basically going off of what Fox News whats her to do and I do believe that Fox is biased about what they want the public to be aware of. I tell her to do research about both parties and she refuses.

One last thing, I have tried to get her to watch "Zeitgeist" and she is unwilling to give it a chance. Not only her, but even family and friends seem to not have time to learn about what is going on in the world or what has happened in the past and for what reasons. I do not believe in everything this documentary has to offer but I do believe that the point is to get us thinking and asking questions. Is it normal that the people I know that are unwilling to seek the truth and not just be sheep annoy me to an extreme? Thinking about how against it they are makes me feel as if a stroke is going to happen soon and I am 27 years of age. Is this normal or am I being too critical?

I'd not care about it either. We are sheep and we like to follow

I think that overall girls are just a lot less involved when it comes to such issues. Even though my GF is highly educated she doesn't seem to give a shit about politics and the obvious yet disturbing correlation that the political system seems to have with macro-economics these days. It is something me and my male friends discuss often, but to girls it seems about as interesting as discussing a car engine.

I have never seen a girl being involved in a discussion about turbo charged engines vs. original v12 performances though, which proves my point ;)

I flip between channels to compare and contrast the facts in their stories. I have previously stated this. I assume you did not read.

  • Voting for Romney is better then voting for Obama.

What ever is your choice. She just cannot give me any reason as to why she believes this is true. You cannot simply just watch one news network, not verify the truth, and deduct your reason because Fox says Romney is better.

Have you tried watching any other news station besides Fox? You know Fox News is the only channel not funded by Obama, right? How ironic your statement about bias is.

This is the only annoying thing she does. I find this important because we are talking about our government and what is happening in the world today. If you do not think these topics hold value, you must agree with her, I assume. I will not literally have a stroke but it gets me "heated." We just stay away from the topic but I just wonder how much of the population over could care less about what is and will be happening.

Have you tried watching it with her in the room? Or will she just tell you to turn it off?

I know a few people like your girlfriend and stubborn ignorance is a challenge to break through. Another idea would be to start talking about some of the issues in front of her without attempting to engage her. It doesn't sound like she's willing to debate the issues. This does worry me about much of the public but I don't think it is a common topic for most people in the US. However there are plenty of people who feel the same way you do. Good luck.

Thank you. I do talk about it around her and the look on her face is as if she is offended. She doesn't even respond and it turns into an argument. Thank you again for understanding where I am coming from.
