Is it normal that japanese men are becoming more "herbivorous"?

I just read an article on CNN titled "Japanese teens not interested in sex":

The statistics are shocking, 49.3% of 20 year-olds have never had a girlfriend and 36.1% of men between 16 and 19 are not interested in sex whatsoever. This in a nation already with one of the lowest birth rates in the world. I've already learnt something very important in this, that 'getting married' is not a given in this day and age. We all have to work for it and we men actually need to know what we're doing.

Is it normal that any society can become like this? Why? I'm sure Japan is not the only country like this. What can parents do today to make men more, err... "carnivorous"?

    Is it really an issue?

    I mean they have a different culture from the US and Europe and it's good that at least one nation is being responsible, in terms of sexual diseases and young pregnancy issues.

    Plus every Japanese male is an individual and make their own choices, having sex is one of them.

    I'm sorry if I sound blunt in saying this but it's none of our business if Japanese teens are or aren't having sex.

    And it's highly unlikely that other males from other nations will stop being interested in sex. On that note, I think I'll find myself a Japanese boyfriend, it'll be nice for once to have a guy NOT thinking about sex!

      You also have to take a look at their culture... The Japanese are known for being "strict" when it comes to culture, customs and especially education. Maybe for westerners it isn't "normal" to be a teen and "not think about sex" (lol) but all jokes aside (hello japanese porn) like MissSorel says its about responsibility.

      The education system in Japan puts a lot of effort in teaching children to take care of other people and not just get better test scores (these days). If anything, Japanese culture is known for discipline. No, not to be an absolute robot but to take responsibility for themselves as well as others.

      "Herbivorous" however, i don't think thats the word to use (as per Merriam Webster)

    I actually think it's kind of good that they aren't thinking about sex because we already have a giant population. If only every country were like this…

      We aren't the only country huntin whales. Go look it up. Oh and I wouldn't say anything because every country has something people look down on. In this case, America is fat ugly and full of rednecks. Nobody likes hearing insults like that. I do not mean any of those things aboutamerica but I know some people who believe it.

        I agree, hunting for food/commerce/resources isn't new. However whales are becoming extinct and Perhaps there should be some rules set (like seasons) for "hunting whales".

        I can shoot a deer from miles away, no problem but only when its legal. Hunting a whale, on the sea/ocean with nothing but a harpoon and a fucking net?! Well, you tell me how to accomplish that. No i don't hunt whales, or big fish in general (google "deadliest catch") but that shit definitely isn't easy, nor is it cheap...
