If you are a girl it might be because calling women pretty does not always mean something sexual. Calling a boy hot usually indicates something sexual. If you are a boy it would probobly be considered sexual to call a boy hot too. Calling a women pretty would be considered normal and would still most likely be taken as a compliment. So that is probobly why. Also what makes you think you are into the same sex? So it is always easier to compliment a women. Now if a women says to a man "You look hansom" it can be taken either way. With women friendliness is not taken as serious. Yet it is taken that way with men.
