Is it normal that it's affected me so much?

I have recently played bioshock infinite and no album, novel, tv show or film has ever hit me so hard. I used to think of gaming as just light entertainment but this shows the power gaming can have. I'ts one of the best pieces of storytelling i've seen in any media type, after the end It felt like when I had finished watching eraserhead for the first time but greater. I have been obssessing over it for days I feel like I cant focus my mind on anything else untill I wrap my head around the story so i've taken a few sick days from work to do it again. is it normal for me to be obssesing over a game like this?

Completely normal.. When (When i was much younger) Being a hitman fan finishing Silent assassin "Hitman 2" Was breath-taking... It was.. I'll never be able to explain the mixed feelings.

Never played Bioshock, even though the first one actually looks really good.

Pretty normal.. But skipping work to play?... HELL YEAH, because fuck work.. Enjoy your free time (Sick days) haha and make it worth it, just remember to go outside too :D

Its fine to have a passtime, but any obsession that makes you neglect your responsibilities isn't normal. Do you have a social life?

I guess I must play Bioshock then...

Not many games/movies/any media for that matter are brilliant enough to make me obsess over them like that, so I really have a greater appreciation for those that can.

I was obsessed with Bioshock 1 and 2 so I can completely understand where you're coming from. Although I didn't think Bioshock Infinite was as good as its predecessors. I think the story was good, and the ending was amazing. However, I think you should probably try to keep your obsession under control, missing work over a game doesn't sound healthy.

The baby in "Eraserhead" makes want to vomit. I haven't thought it or the whole mess and all that surrealistic/symbolic stuff in years. It made my head feel funny; I seriously had to take a Klonopin!

Games can be as affecting as any other art form. I've gotten chills, tears and laughter from really good games just as I have from movies or TV.

You have great taste, by the way. Bioshock Infinite is worth your emotional investment. If you can get past the clunky old-school graphics, so are Planescape: Torment and Morrowind. (Oblivion was pretty blah, but the Ayleid ruins never failed to creep me the hell out.)
