Is it normal that im too worried to sleep and panic if i do

I cant sleep very easily as i worry that something bad will happen when i am asleep like me being ill or someone coming into the house or bad things happening to my family,it makes me worry so i wake up frequently in my sleep and if im really worried i begin to stratch the back of my neck quite badly as it stops me panicking, none of this happends if i drink before i sleep, which is becoming a worrying habbit,is this normal?

You need to see a therapist about this. I have insomnia (not by choice) and its made things difficult. My sleep schedule is completely off and there are times where I'm nearly comatose because I'm trying to make up for the lack of sleep. If you are worried about protection you can:

    -Get a Dog.
    -Install security/alarm system.
    -Put locks on your doors.
-Don't have any tall, claim able trees near your window or a trellis.
-You could put a security railing/screen on your windows.

Do you know what you do every day that is really dangerous? More dangerous than my sailing across oceans on a 50 foot boat. More dangerous than a high wire circus act.
Getting in a car each day. Statistically, it is one of the most dangerous things that humans have ever done, historically.
Sleeping, is not particularly dangerous, especially in one's own home.
If you have the strength and courage to ride/drive in a car, you should be able to manage a good night's sleep.

Apart from slight insomnia, i also worry too much about every single fucking thing that can happen if i sleep or.. if i cant sleep.
If you can fall asleep, that is great. Believe me. Not being able to sleep is the most frustrating thing in the world. Fuck studying a full month and failing one exam. This is a lot worse...
My suggestion would be for you to find someone to sleep with. Since you mentioned alcohol, did you know if you're really drunk you might vomit in your sleep and die? We can easily die from sooo many things during day.. your room is the same wheather it's night or day. Lock your bedroom door and the windows too for safety :) see a doctor <- this is important. And remain calm!

Sometimes I procrastinate going to bed because I worry that I will get sick in my sleep (I have emetophobia). It's not normal though, especially not in your case with the drinking.

I think you should try and seek some help for this, as no sleep or very little sleep will wreck your life. It can lead to major paranoia, depression and all sorts. There is a way around this, just talk through it with a good doctor as a starting point.

If something tragic has recently happened then yes, it's normal There could be other reasons also. It can be due to a psychological feeling of hopelessness or loss.
I hate to sleep because I feel like when I wake up people that I love will be gone. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about getting a sleep aide medication.
