Tell her in your own way but let her know. Often times the best roads in life to take are the ones you really don't want to travel (fear etc).

Even though her friend told her, she is maybe waiting for you tell her yourself. I think you should do this regardless of her being weird around you.
Whatever her answer to you may be, it is so much better to do it and find out what she thinks than to wonder about it or regret not doing it later.
Face your fear and tell her!

You have broken the ice. Depending upon her reaction you'll know the answer. If she continues to act 'weird' towards you, then it sounds as though it fell through.
