Is it normal that im scared?

My grandmother recently passed away. She left me behind a box in her will. I didn't open it until just yesterday. In it was a coin..I thought "ill keep it. Keepsake" I didn't know what it was...at all. So I decided to see if I could look it up. I found it on the internet. http://www.coinsite.com/coinsite-pf/pparticles/$1busthe.asp if you were wondering what it is, its a 1798-1804 silver dollar draped bust heraldic eagle. Apparently, its worth a lot of money. Not talking like 50 grand. 300 grand and higher. I don't know whether to keep it, or sell it. I could pay for my colllege and get a house and stuff. is it normal to feel undecisive, sad, excited, and confused at the same time!?

Unless you really need the money I suggest keeping it. It's a memorabilia of your grandfather. Money comes and goes, you'll have plenty of opportunities to make a lot of it, but family heirlooms are the only piece that a piece has to the generations of his family, which is something that can never be taken away.

I agree. I'd keep it unless you're truly in a tight spot fiscally (though even then it may be hard to part with), and otherwise I'd save it for when you might need the money later, or to leave for your children/grandchildren. And at that point it'd be worth even more money.

    • Yes. Totally bs. I wasted 5 minutes of my day to hopefully get some people to waste their time. Oh, and my grandmother didn't die, I just made that up too. Stupid posts like this upset me.

Well the way you wrote your story made it sound like this was some advertisement for some gold and silver trading business. Especially with the link and the info you provided. Really missleads the readers.

        • Yea, because I'm literally trying to run a coin selling business off of isitnormal.com. I mean really, who thought of that brilliant idea. Generally people appreciate some background info .

You would be suprised at who desperate people can get for advertisement. If you look at other question sites like yahoo answers people post spam questions like this all the time.

Keep it for the time being. The longer you wait, the more it'll be worth... But If you ABSOLUTELY need it now, you could sell it. But manage your money wisely. 'tis a shame Susie Orman isn't here.

    Good Luck!

She probably gave it to you for a reason... If you need the money - sell it,it's just a coin..it's not like you will play with it all the time.
If you won't sell it you will forget about it and........

    well, I'd say sell it.

I'm sure she would've wanted you to do what makes YOU happy.

Keeping this coin was obviously something that made her happy, but now that you're the owner you should use it to further yourself, but ONLY if it's something that doesn't carry significant sentimental value to you or your other family members.

    Original Poster.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother but she wanted you to benefit from that coin. If you feel sentimental about it, then take a photograph and have it framed. I am serious, she did not leave it for you to leave in a box under the bed and the more people that you tell, the more likely you are to be burgled. Cash it in while you can, and put the money to good use!

The very best of luck. She must've loved you very very much :o)

Sell it if you think it will make you happy. If you are smart with your finances, and don't get frivolous (much easier said than done I will admit), you could have enough money to live the rest of your life in ease.
