Is it normal that i wouldn't date someone if they where a republican?

I will never understand Republicans, especially the ones who don't have much money, and I hate how they pretend to appeal to Christian Values, when their policies involve letting the poor get poorer and the rich get richer.

But what my question is about, is that If I where to meet someone, and they where perfect in almost every possible way, but I found out they were a republican, I just couldn't be into them anymore. I just completely stop being interested in them. I can never imagine living my whole life with someone who watches fox news non-ironically. I have nothing against republicans, I just am not compatible with one. Luckily I live in a very liberal city, so almost everyone is a democrat or green party or something.

Wanting to date someone with similar political views isn't exactly uncommon or new.

    • Except that they are literally the same as one another now, just thinly disguised enough to fool the majority into thinking politics is still a real thing. Democrats are on the inside what republicans are on the outside.

Lol, but if you ask around, they're both polar opposites and depending on who you ask, either Republicans or Democrats are ruining our country.

I prefer to think of it as a group effort, but I've been told I am full of crazy ideals.

It's like a modern Romeo and Juliette! Easy answer; you both drink poison and die at the end of the movie.

I'm a republican and I'm an Atheist and I hate Fox news. I think you're talking about conservatism. Anyway, I believe it is normal to judge a person harshly based on his or her or its political affiliation. This does not mean it's good thing.

  • I don't see why anyone voted not normal.

It's important to have standards and similar beliefs is important.

I love how people like you seem to only focus on the rich and the poor. No one gives a shit about the middle men just like no one cares about the brown man. They are there too people.

I was middle class for a long time before I became poor. I did just fine. Granted the rich people were doing infinitely better in their excess.

Yes but people think they are just fucking over the rich. They really are not screwing over the rich. They take all the extra money from middle class since rich are either too rich for it to matter or cheat out on taxes.

Yet no they act like they are attacking the rich which they really never could do. Since in reality if you are rich you probobly don't give a fuck! Just like when they talk about history how the white man picked on the black. Yet they exclude the Hispanics and the Asians. Yes not like these people matter.

So while the poor attack the rich and the white and black fight they blissfully ignore the middle man. The middle man that doesn't bitch, doesn't seem to complain, and everyone seems to exclude.

Yet in reality these people are affected too just no one gives a shit about them. No one gives a fuck about them EVER! and I just find it annoying they act like these people don't exist in these type of discussions. Why exactly are they being ignored?

Lets have black history month, lets destroy big business. Yeah yet no one cares about that mom and pop shop that got bought out by giant company's like Walmart. No just completely ignore them.

Just thought I would point that out since no one seems to know these people exist.

Look at it this way shawty; we are humans mothafucka. We gotta start acting like it too. One year ago I'd say slap dat mothafucking white boy Mitt Romney. Fancy-ass colgate-smile, good lord. But now, I don't fucking care what u believe in. No one should. People are killing each other because of religion, politics, cultures I mean.. suck a dick man. Why. We should light a big ass blunt togetha and understand why we all believe in different things. Trust me, there is a reason. Dat's so much more peaceful than just hatin each other for not being exactly like u. I say date dat mothafucka. Date the shit out of the guy. Cause u don't love a person for being a democrat. U don't marry a guy just because he's green party. So why dislike a person just for being a republican. U don't have to agree with the mothafucka. But if u love dat nigga, u know what u gotta do.

    - Actually I don't know what sex u are, but I'ma say you're a gurl. Guys wouldn't ask these kinda questions in here. We'd fuck da republican and ask for some dollars to boost our health insurance. But listen. If u date da nigga there's one rule; If dat mothafucka knock u up with a Ronald Reagan looking baby, u don't listen to his christian "abortion is murder" bullshit. U get dat thang outta u, if you're not ready to raise a child. Ima light this big mothafucka up and watch some Kevin Hart! Later bitches, love to all yo asses.

I would try to be more open minded about it. There are many types of republicans and I'm sure there are many that don't watch or agree with fox news in general.

Not only would I not date a Republican, I wouldnt date a religious person either as both would mean theyre probably too stupid for me...

I think people who lean too far either way are just ridiculous. Its clear where you stand on the matter. You're thinking is just as closed minded as the people you dislike. "If I where to meet someone, and they where perfect in almost every possible way, but I found out they were a republican, I just couldn't be into them anymore."

Then you follow with "I have nothing against republicans, I just am not compatible with one." Um....if you were way into them before you found out their political opinion then you definitely do indeed have something against republicans. If you're going to be closed minded...just own it. I can't stand poor justifications.

By not having anything against them, I mean I don't think it's their fault. They are just very misguided. My father and his wife are republicans, and I don't hold it against them.

I'm a middle of the road kind of guy. But I just see your not being able to date someone of a different political opinion as bunk thinking.

A word of warning. Your political opinion will hopefully change some throughout your life. If it doesn't, you're doing something wrong.

I suppose it has. When I was a child I mostly saw the Democrats as "good guys who help the poor", Now I just see them as "not as bad for the country as the republicans". Although one thing that is worth noting, is a lot of what shaped my view on politics was growing up with the Iraq war. I was around 6 when 9/11 happened, and at the time all I could think of about the war was that if the Iraqis weren't even mostly terrorists, why should we send our people to kill their people, so that all sides can lose soldiers. I realize now it was a bit more complex than that due to the made up WMDs, Saddam Hussein, and lots of oil. But most of those things just make it worse. I feel like most of what Obama has done with continuing the war was necessary now that we had started it, but when he put troops into Afghanistan, I realized it goes beyond that for him too.

I suppose to me the main reason I don't like Republican idealogy, is because it makes no sense to me. I'm a Catholic, and personally I don't view increasing taxes as a bad thing if it can help poor people with things like welfare and medicine. I think focusing on your own wealth is a bad thing. Jesus himself said "Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Yet at the same time, Republicans such as Bush have been exploiting Christians by (possibly only pretending" to be against abortion and LGBT persons. Personally as a Christian, I only agree with abortion being bad, I usually just refer to it as infanticide.

Then I look at what a lot of republicans believe in, and they often say things to me like that everyone who makes money earned it, and that if poor people had done the same amount of work, they wouldn't be poor. To me this is flawed logic when you consider that a lot of poor people are impoverished minorities that would never be hired if a white man was willing to take the same job. Granted that's just one idea that MOST, not ALL Republicans hold. I could get in to a lot of other things that the republicans usually believe in

I am Liberal and my boyfriend is a Republican. He hates Fox news and he is open to so many different ideas and thoughts. You are most likely talking about Conservative Republicans, but remember, it's important not to judge someone for WHAT they are, but for WHO they are.

I seem to remember Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger are on opposite sides of the political fence. They seem to be doing OK?
There may be a lot of reasons to keep your distance from someone, but politics may not be one of them.
