Is it normal that i would feel more normal being a certain character?

Ok. To start off, when I go to hang out with the few friends I have, they always say I'm TOO inthusiastic about things, and they always hate everything I like. This kind of puts me into a small depression sometimes. My favorite character is Sonic The Hedgehog. I admire & look up to him, because thats what I want my personality to be like. Cool, and outgoing.. And for the most part, it is! I don't try TOO hard though.. I'm just kinda like that to begin with. GETTING TO THE POINT, the reason I'd feel more “at home" you could say, being Sonic, is because he always has things to do, and he saves the world and is always admired and gets to just chill sometimes.. Ya know? I know this sounds like a really immature post, but its really not.. So is this Normal? Please don't just say "yes" or "no".. I really love opinions and what people have to say. Thanks.

I think reasons like this is why a lot of people become furries. I go on Secondlife sometimes to play around with the building tools and there's actually a mobian furry following out there.

It's not necessarily normal in that it's not a *huge* following, but it's still something a lot of people take an interest in, just more of a cult following almost. :) We all identify to a certain extent to characters in books and movies, and try to emulate qualities in them that they find admirable. So in that sense it's even more normal.

  • At a certain age I looked up to Link from the game "Ocarina of Time". You're normal. We all have heroes.

But don't deceive yourself into thinking that the traits of a cartoon character are somehow applicable in our real world.

      • No no, you misunderstand. I didn't think you'd become that character so much as perhaps taking it too far.

As a kid I always liked how quiet and strong Link was but if I had taken that attitude in real life (quiet all the time) I would probably have come off as either a jerk or timid.

What works in the virtual world invented by men doesn't always translate well into the waking world. Just because Link gets the girl by being taciturn (lol) doesn't mean you'll get the girl that way.

It's normal to admire fictional characters and want to be like them. I wish I could be more like Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony, because she's always happy and very social, whereas I'm a moody loner.

So you feel a little out of place, and you want people to come to you have some things in common with personalities and interests. Just relax and be yourself, you don't need to emulate someone cool and outgoing to get them to like you more, just try to find something cool about yourself that they don't know yet.
