Is it normal that i wish the words "pretty" and "ugly" didn't exist?

We always try to look better, act better, sound like better people- but in reality, why do we obsess with beauty? Acceptance. Everybody just wants to be accepted no matter what they look like, act like, etc... That's why I just wish the words "ugly" and pretty" didn't exist. Ugly means "unpleasant or repulsive, especially in appearance." This definition is inaccurate. Appearance is perceived in all different ways. Think about it- if you didn't have people telling you what was ugly or pretty, what would you consider ugly or pretty now? Pretty means "attractive in a delicate way without being truly beautiful or handsome." So, in reality, who or what would consider pretty or ugly now if you looked at something or someone in a different way? We should all accept people and always find the good in them. To judge anyone by their appearance is the only thing on Earth that could be considered truly "ugly."

I understand what you're talking about. It isn't those words that needs to vanish but people using them to hurt others.

I need those adjectives. Not for people, but objects.

They'd inevitably be replaced with some other adjective and would be used in the same exact context. This is the life we live in. Eh.

i think if the words didn't exist, people would discriminate as much as ever, the difference being that you wouldn't be able to say to them 'you only like me because i'm pretty!' or 'you just think i suck because i'm ugly!'

Well people should to a certain extent be judged on how they look...not for things they cant help like things they are born with...But for how they keep themselves ...like if you walk into a job interview with dirty clothing, your jeans have a hole, and you didnt brush your hair. Sometimes judging on appearances keeps people bathing and looking clean.

Also we need those words amd other simular words to describe things. Also you need them to write books like the ugly duckling. :)

But those words are pretty boring. There are many other words in the English language that mean the same, if not similar thing.

Perhaps it would do us some good to use our vocab skills.

The point I'm really trying to make is that it is a word. If it didn't exist, a new one would replace it because the concept exists. Lead by example and don't judge based on appearance. Then encourage children to do the same.

Don't get angry with a word for the meaning you attach to it.

If it wasn't those two words, it would be others. Some words are necessary to describe those things.
There are so many fables, stories and fairy tales to teach us that those sorts of words and their connotations, need not hold any sway in our lives. You seem not to have learned that lesson. Too bad. Somehow those words have come to mean way too much to you.

How could you be proud of being ugly if ugliness didn't exist?

You wouldn't so it wouldn't matter. Or some isnsolent fool would create a word. That means the same thing.
