I would definitely go to an IIN meet up. There are people here I absolutely love. I would like to meet them in real life.
Sure, it could be fun. But I think I would hire a bodyguard. Or at least carry some sort of spray repellant. Some of you will get hugs, others may get a face full of water. :P
We should pick a day next year, all stick nametags on ourselves with our usernames and have a communal day out. I vote that we go to the zoo!
But, to be serious, I know what you mean. There are lots of interesting, engaging and funny people on IIN. Although there are also the hate-spreaders. I guess they'd be better in real-life because it's not anonymous and they'd be less brave. Maybe we'd all be different than people imagine. For instance, when people think of me, who imagines a man clipping his toenails? But at 8pm yesterday evening, that was my reality. Watching Star Trek, clipping my nails and thinking about microwaving the half a pizza that was left over from the weekend because I have a small appetite.
Speaking of Star Trek, we each need one of those transporters. So if anyone of you said, "dappled, can I come to your house and have pizza with you?" then you could. Realistically, there's only one IINer who actually could. Most days we're probably only a few hundred yards apart. Even when we're both at home, we're probably less than a mile apart.
It's weird how everyone is so far away from me and the one person who is close is really, really, really close.
One side of me says, "Sure!" but then another side remembers all the incest posts, cousin humpers, crazy people and trololols and says, "Well maybe not".
Here's my idea for the big IIN meet.
Everyone gets a number instead of a nametag.
Everyone mingles for a set amount of time.
Everyone tries to match the numbers with the users present.
At midnight the users are revealed and the most correct guesses are announced. Someone needs to help me with a prize though. Maybe lifetime IIN gold?
I bet nobody guesses who i am!
I'd like to meet a good deal of the IIN crowd in person, I absolutely LIVE for meeting new, interesting people! My WoW guild (years ago) did a meetup like this, at Bonnaroo (one of us lived nearby) and we did a big 2-day cookout / hangout / listen to music get-together. It was awesome!
I'd like to watch one, but in real life, I am actually quite a hyper little bug.
I'd probably annoy the shit out of some of you.
Love to be the pessimist here, but it's just not very feasible.
There are quite a few users I would probably get along great with, but it would mostly be meeting a bunch of strangers I think. Many users, even if I recognized them for their username, I wouldn't know anything about.
Also, the lesser known users would probably feel left out or something if they weren't with the in-crowd. Then again, if they were sociable enough to make the trip in the first place, then they would probably get along just fine with others.
This would never happen for me. I live far away from all the other users and I don't have enough money to travel.
Yeah that would be great! There always sunshine here and a beautiful lagoon. I have not thought of this possibility.
Now I'm imagining you live on a Pacific island or in the Indian Ocean. It sounds very nice, wherever it is. How long would it take to get there from England (bearing in mind I refuse to take aeroplanes so I'll be coming in my canoe).
No thanks i get funny enough looks in public i don't want to scare you all off.
