Is it normal that i want to open up to my teacher?

Hi, well recently I've been really sad. My family is in the middle of a horrible divorce, my step dad is divorcing my mom so everyone on his side of the family is now nothing to me. My step sister is now not a part of my life and my step dad who has been my father figure since I was 2 is just gone. They left one night and didn't even day good bye. At the same time my mom has to be a single mom of 4 so she is CONSTANTLY working... I mean like 12 hours a day. A few months ago she was a stay at home mom. To get the point, I really want to talk to my teacher about this. I'm not really sure if she wants that kind of relationship with me though. I just want someone to talk to.

Talk to your teacher. Just ask their opinion. Teachers are there to teach and to listen. And you need to talk with someone. Maybe several someone's....can your mom get you in to see a therapist? Just someone you can figure out your feelings with?

Teachers are wise and they have seen alot of students and there problems, im sure you wouldnt be the first. Just dont share any of ypur parents very personal things... Your parents wpuld be hurt if they found out. And teachers talk...

If you have a teacher that you trust then perhaps telling her that you need someone to talk to (not necessarily revealing your personal life just yet) would allow her to help you. The teacher may be able to help you secure an appointment with your school counselor, or if the teacher invites you to talk with her personally, then you can express your concerns regarding your family.

I second the idea of a school counselor. Not your teacher's job or expertise. The counselor can really help you; that's what they are trained for.

Looking back now I can see clearly that many of my high school teachers were complete b'stards, and some were borderline nut cases. At the time, I didn't know enough to realize that.

To put it politely: teachers don't have the time or the specialist training to deal with that kind of stuff.

Do you have a Rabbi/Priest/Cleric with whom you could talk? Most of them are trained in that field and are discreet. If your parents are religious then it's good to have someone like that on your side.
