Is it normal that i want to go to therapy?

My parents always call me stupid and ridiculous because I have a fear of germs. It's kinda excessive. They tell me to get rid of it, but it's not that easy. It's taking over my life. They think I'm doing it for attention. I'm not going through all of this for attention. This is serious. So, I'd like to have therapy to help.

I agree with you that therapy is a good idea. It's great that you want to go and be helped! We all need help sometimes!!

Ignore your parents: their ignorance and lack of empathy may well be factors in your obsessiveness. The sooner you have therapy the easier it will be to move on from this restriction on your life, so go for it, and I wish you well

Maybe your parents don't really think your stupid or doing it for attention at all. They probabaly want to help. It you want therapy - and that sounds like a great step - then ask them to organise it for you. The first step is taken by you - and that's to ask for help. Not easy - but worth it. Swallow that pride and do it. You'll find people aren't judging but usually wanting the best for you. Good luck,

Sounds like an anxiety and OCD thing. My sister is a total germophobe, but she doesn't want to get any therapy. The doctor prescribed her some Xanax, but she's scared to take it. No offense, but I think people who don't believe in mental illness and or think it's something the person can control or is doing for attention are hella ignorant. I have some people like that I my life and it's very annoying at best and enraging at worst. I think it's great that you want to get help!

I have a few friends that are germaphobes. Just carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you at all times. Try to challenge yourself with just one small bottle a day. To keep it under control
