Not normal, just go on the pill or something else. You might change your mind in the future.

I say it's normal, I'm 23 and I have no interest in having children. I'm not sexually active right now, but if I was, I might consider getting my tubes tied since I'm not always consistent about taking the pill. A lot of doctors won't consider doing it until you're at least 30 or have had children, because you "might change your mind". Tubal ligation is hard to reverse (to make you able to have children again), so make sure you really won't change your mind before getting it done.

Normal to me. I have never honestly wanted children, and though I'm only 20, I'm pretty sure it will stay that way. However, unless you can present the doctor with a valid medical reason, or you can miraculously find a doctor who doesn't have a god complex... you probably aren't going to get one to do it.

It should be pointed out though, that it's hypocritical of them to refuse the procedure to willing females if they are going to scream pro life and safe sex. To me, there's no safer route. AND... since just TYING them is actually reversible, though not 100% accident free, I think it should be considered as lightly as most people do nose or boob jobs.

    Just a thought.

I decide at 15 I didn't want kids and was looking into the operation at 17. there are alot of reasons why a person doesn't want kids and I for one think it is a responsible thing to consider. Without knowing the full story I cannot say whether or not this option is the best one for your situation. I'm 23 and according to my state law you have to be 21. I'm going to get the coil procedure done within the year and my doctor though not supportive of this decision is very understanding. my advice is take the waiting time to investigate your options and if by your 21 birthday you still think this is the best way to go, I say go for it.

I gave up at finding a partner at 18 and decided I am just going to adopt. Its your choice to have kids or not. If you never want them go ahead and have your tubes tied. Its a lot better than keeping it open and having a bunch of kids you dont want.

Don't do it! You could change your mind, and how sad would that be?

I think it's a normal urge if you're sexually active and want to avoid the consequences of pregnancy, but it's very shortsighted. That's why most doctors won't do it. You'll change your mind in 10 or 20 years, but you often can't change the operation. It's like tattoos. Removing tattoos from those who got them in college is a big business and growing.

    ^^

Where I live, they won't even consider it until you're in your 30s or have kids already. I'm 27 and childless, but they won't tie mine.

  • Most doctors won't do that before you're in your mid 20s at the earliest.
