Is it normal that i want to become a drifter????

Sometimes I wish that I could just drop everything in my life and sell every one of my possessions and start traveling around the country with very little money and nothing to worry about. I have always been curious about it and I wold LOVE to do it.

  • Most drifters are the main target of serial killers.

If there is nothing holding you back from exploring the world, have at it!

Traveling is the ultimate expression of FREEDOM.

You will need a valid Passport however, so the Government will always know where you are. This concept of FREEDOM is merely a "concept." You can travel here, and there, but citizenship is fixed unless you change it.

The other important thing is you will require some financial means. An ability to make money to support yourself wherever you land so be resourceful.

I would recommend saving for a big boat, and take a 1st mate, so you can sail wherever the wind takes you.

Do post often of your travels. Everyone loves a great adventure!

It's probably not at all normal these days, but there is certainly nothing wrong with doing it.
For me, I began doing it on boats at 12 and it actually became a pretty lucrative profession. I did do 3 transcontinental hitch hiking trips (SF to NY) in the 60's, but I guess that's just not done anymore.
    Have fun & good luck.

I've often thought of just choosing a direction and just travelling in that direction for as long as I can using whatever transport necessary

When I read "drifter", I thought you meant the guys that drift cars. A car drifter - yes! I want to be that.

    A hobo - no.

Why sould you want that. Work, make money, get old. When old travel and live in luxury.
That's what I want to do.

Riding the rails is probably a good way to get knifed and robbed by a hobo.

I have always wanted to be a drifter. So, I retired early, put camping gear in the trunk of my car and left home.

Well... I'd say, first drop everything in your life, and visit some place for a week. And if you like it. Go for it!

Yes I consider it normal but I would still like to have a plan. Like for insistence lets say you are on your way to like china. I would make sure I have like an apartment already set up so you don't have to live on the streets.
