Is it normal that i want to be told i'm hot instead of beautiful?

My family and my boyfriend have called me beautiful, but I've only been called pretty a handful of times. Hot has come by once or twice. This question is shallow but: can't a girl want to be outwardly pretty more than pretty on the inside sometimes?

I completely understand you. I am called "cute" but rarely ever called hot.

This is going to sound odd but it seems to me that no matter what these self-righteous beacons of glory that call themselves males say on the internet ("Oh, I love personality first, I would rather have a girl with a great personality than for for the hot girl" "I am not interested in some tanned blonde girl with fake nails" sorry guys but if the look didn't work, people wouldn't do it as often as they do), it seems like, IRL they always go for the hot girl first and the hot girl always gets the respect first and girls that are "cute" and "beautiful" have to do more to earn the respect and admiration.

It's like, you know, the difference between a popular Pop band and a really good underground band. You may get deeper recognition from people that should matter more but in the end, you're 3rd, 4th or 5th best to the chicks that they think are "hot". Beauty just doesn't cut it in our society anymore. I don't know who to blame for this, but it doesn't.

when a guy tells me I'm hot, i see it "you're pretty i want your pussy", when a guy tells me I'm beautiful, i see it more like "you're so cute and nice and pretty, and i wanna speak to you -and maybe have your pussy too-"

This is entirely true. "Hot" is usually a descriptive word we use when talking to the homies about "smashing" a chic and that's it. If we tell our homeboy we think a girl is gorgeous/beautiful, they know to respect the girl and that the girl herself will have class and self-respect. Men usually say "hot" about a girl they just want sex with and nothing more.

Women aren't "hot," they're beautiful. Calling someone hot is too sexist for me...

  • I understand. Personally I like both but being called hot makes you feel...evil. ¬‿¬

I've been self concious like that before in my life and know exactly where you're coming from. I'm in a lot better place than that, being 37 and i've maintained my appearance.. Although, my best advice to you, is don't worry so much about what people think. Just focus on yourself. If you like and care about yourself then others will too.

No matter how not shallow of a person you are, everyone just wants to feel sexy sometimes. :) You're perfectly normal.

I think I know what you mean. I cringe when I get called handsome but "hot" I'd happily accept.

I get it. I get called cute more often than pretty, beautiful, or hot. It use to bother me a lot when I was younger but no one knew it bothered me. I really don't mind anymore and I'm not sure what changed. Sorry, that wasn't very helpful.
