Is it normal that i want to be a mobster???

So ever since I was little I always wanted to be a mobster, and not one of those crips or blood kids, im talking about italian cosa nostra kind. Something about their life attracts me. Thing is, I know I will never be a full member because Im not 100% italian. Im really good at school and my parents want me to be a doctor, but I am looking for excitement. Im not trying to troll or anything im being 100% serious. Is this normal or should I just listen to what my parents are telling me. I know alot of ppl in the mob right now so I think I can actually get started. I mean do most ppl even dream of becoming criminals? Is that normal?

  • No you don't. You like the romanticized horse squat that Hollywood churns out.

The actual mob is a soul crushing endeavor populated with scum bags, backstabbers, and demi-humans who'd strangle their own grandmother to get ahead.

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster. To me, being a gangster was better than being president of the United States. Even before I went to the cabstand for an after-school job, I knew I wanted to be a part of them. It was there that I knew I belonged. To me, it meant being somebody in a neighborhood full of nobodies. They weren't like anybody else. They did whatever they wanted. They parked in front of hydrants and never got a ticket. When they played cards all night nobody ever called the cops.

At first my parents loved that I found a job across the street from the house. My father, who was Irish, was sent to work at the age of eleven. He liked that I got myself a job. He always used to say that American kids were spoiled lazy.

I was the luckiest kid in the world. I could go anywhere, do anything. I knew everybody, and everybody knew me. Here I am, this little kid, I can't even see over the steering wheel and I'm parking Cadillacs. But, it wasn't too long before my parents changed their minds about my job at the cabstand. For them, it was supposed to be a part-time job. But for me it was definitely full time. That's all I wanted to do. People like my father could never understand, but I was part of something. I belonged. I was treated like a grown-up.

My father was always pissed off. Pissed that he made such lousy money, that my brother was in a wheelchair. He was pissed that seven of us lived in such a tiny house. After a while, he was mostly pissed because I hung around the cabstand. He knew what went on there. Every once in a while I'd have to take a beating. But by then, I didn't care. The way I saw it, everybody takes a beating sometime.

People looked at me differently, and they knew I was with somebody. I didn't have to wait in line at the bakery on Sunday morning for fresh bread. The owner knew who I was with and no matter how many people were waiting, I was taken care of first. Our neighbors stopped parking in our driveway, even though we had no car. At thirteen, I was making more money than most of the grown-ups in the neighborhood. I had it all. One day... one day, some neighborhood kids carried my mother's groceries all the way home. Know why? It was out of respect.

Now why exactly did you type all that? I know Goodfellas is a cool movie and all, but what's your point? That it's all romanticized B.S.? Isn't that obvious? (except to the O.P. haha)

The first line of the post just reminded me of it, and I can pretty much type that stuff from memory because I love the film. Aside from that, I don't know why I did it. :D

I've just read the first line of the post again, and you're right: it really reminded me of Goodfellas too (although I can't remember much more of it than just the opening sentence).

My great grandpa was a don back in the day from Sicily and went to Uruguay and my grandpa didn't want part of the mob. I would've gladly taken that...loads of cash...big houses...cars...girls...everything.

So having to take life like it's nothing doesn't bother you? Does the fact that your life can be taken as if it's nothing by your own crime-family? Everything is business. If your LIFE doesn't play out with their money making or progression your finished and everything you were and could've been is gone. Your amongst the dead, one of them, and you'll never ever be back.

Well, it's better than being one of those gangsters with the sagging jeans and don't know how to hold a gun right.

  • My great uncle was a "mob boss"ish person. He was one of the "crime bosses" in Scotland. He robbed a bank aswell, and he escaped from prison and fled to to America. Apparantly, it was either his capture or his break out, that almost took J.F.K's election off the front papers.

As for average day crime, personally, I think it's one of the best things I have done.

Mobsters often call themselves "Men of honor" as I'm sure you know. Well, they've got NO honor WHATSOEVER. Yeah, I know they had rules in the past like not killing women and children. Does that mean they were OK? Fuck no! Not even remotely.

I used to be a pathetic Mobster-wannabe too, but besides the fact that I haven't got a drop of Italian blood in me (I'm Dutch), I outgrew it and realized there are FAR better ways of earning money than sacrificing your humanity. Sure, you'll probably make less, but at least you don't totally suck as a human being that way.

  • I think that most people want to be a part of non-criminal types of clubs and organizations.

Seriously. Bad for business. You don't get made because you're looking for excitement.
But what does a freelance assassin know, right? -_-

If you're kidding about being a freelance assassin (which I think you are), then OK, ha-fucking-ha. My hat's off to you, ma'am.

If you're not, and you have indeed sacrificed your humanity/morality/soul for some goddamn money, then you're a vile, immoral creature who has DEEPLY failed as a human being.

:p you know more than I do that's for sure. I was being a jackass as usual but I do know people who know people. I would not want to be involved in that sort of stuff personally. But those people have a lot of 'power' in my area. They own and run some major things around here. I can not give any further details on the matter. I don't want to be sent for.

          hey hey, no worries-
i'm mainly just questioning OP's reasons for becoming a mobster.
If he wants excitement, he's better of being a doctor in war/crisis areas, and the pay often is better, too.
The romantic times are quite over...and the jobs are often about as exciting as those of a private eye. *shrug*
I take no joy or pride in my job, but, as the saying goes, it pays the rent.

First mistake: assumptions. I am a lady, not your bro.
Second mistake: doubts. If the money is right, I'll do many things, and with what one vengeful person is willing to pay. I can have a good life for a long time. Never underestimate what people are willing to do for the right price.
Freelance is actually cleaner than being a merc. If you have a dayjob, which you should, you have the option of refusing stuff that seems too risky or won't let you sleep.
