Is it normal that i've taken lithium for 14 years?

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 18 and now I'm 32. I've taken lithium the whole time and find that its probably really changed my life compared to if I never started taking it. I feel that if I never would have started taken it then I'd be dead or something else bad by now. I feel that I might not be bipolar but instead, just seriously flawed like low self esteem and immaturity.

My dosage is 900-1,350 mg per day. When I was 16-18, I don't remember as bad of mood swings as I do now when I decrease the meds so I'm led to beleieve that the meds contribute to manic and depressive states, to a degree. I only get depressed when I drop the meds and so I go back on them.

Well having bipolar isn't that normal, but treating it with lithium is pretty normal, so for someone to have taken lithium for 14 years since being diagnosed with bipolar is pretty normal.

    Yeah.

    I love that Nirvana song.
