Is it normal that i've had back pain and nausea for a week?

Hi,

I'm 21. For the past week I've had constant nausea, especially when I haven't eaten anything(I haven't throwed up), but I just ate almost a full bowl of oatmeal and although I feel a lot better, my stomach feels a bit empty still and am a bit nauseous. I am currently sitting here snacking on saltine crackers... I've also had constant low back pain (Pain is around my right rib cage in the back and also below it). It's really sore and is not relieved by sitting or lying down. And if I stand for too long the pain/soreness gets a lot worse and starts to almost feel like a burning sensation. I've tried applying a heat compress to the painful area of my back but it doesn't help at all.

All of these symptoms started around the same time, so I assume they're related... But no idea.

By the way, I haven't done anything to injure my back. And if it helps, I'm biologically female. (I'm a virgin, so definitely not pregnant, lol...). And I do have scoliosis(i.e. very noticeable curve in my upper spine, and right rib cage is rotated) But I've never had back pain like this before.

Thanks!

    I'd go to a doctor :/

Not sure about the nausea, but maybe try ice on the back. If it's inflamed, heating it can help but then make it 'worse'. Don't ice for too long, though. I can't remember what the proper amount of time is...10-20mins max? Idk.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Nobody here is qualified to give you medical advice. No, constant pain and/or discomfort is not normal.

    Please go see a doctor.

  • It looks like it could be the beginning of a kidney infection. Usually people get lower back pains in the flank area. Nausea and fatigue are also concurring symptoms. You may need to see a doctor if the problem stays or continues to get worse. I once had gonorrhea and I came yellow stuff.

What the other comments said but it could be... Oh, what's the word... Right, appendicitis. Yeah, that's what my "vote" is on.

That's commonly associated with pain in that area (I believe) and nausea. You'd better see the doctor ASAP because you need an operation to get that removed.

hah I swear I was gonna ask if you had had unsafe sex :/
Ive had nauseas before because I was nervous.

But I don't know and I highly doubt people on here know. Go see a doctor because it might be serious?

Same for my dad. But he's like 35 and almost retired from the Air Force. I'm so proud of him.
