Is it normal that i've been asked this in the street three times?

I have been asked to model on the street three times in my life.

Two women and one man, stopped me in the street and said "I'm from ____ modelling agency, would you like to ...?"
They write my phone number and name and tell me to call them to set a visit so I can go and take pictures and start modelling if I am interested, which (they say) they hope I am.

I'm not that pretty, I'm actually pretty ugly most of the times. So I've never called back [neither did them which means to me that they didn't really like me], because I do not dare to go to this place full of pretty girls that will make me look horrible.

I'm not kidding when I say that I'm ugly :|
So I was wondering, if they ask a lot of random people on the street so then they can choose out from hundreds of girls?

    Pics?

I have a feeling you're not ugly at all. And besides, you don't have to feel threatened, there are all these pretty girls, but they want you! You obviously have a natural beauty that most people don't possess. You should be empowered.

The era of beautiful models is over now what agencies want is weird faces and beautiful body.

    • Yes harm. I'm weak & I'm scared to go there and get depressed because all girls are so pretty.

Standards for beauty in modeling and standards for beauty in the real world are sometimes vastly different.

Some models are considered highly desirable by agents due to their versatility. Their figure can be used to model diverse types of fashions, their face can appropriately accommodate many different types of makeup styles and their bone structure and pigmentation can accommodate different hair styles and hair colors.

The "beauty" you see in many magazines is often the result of skilled cosmetic design, computer editing, lighting, background ambiance and so on more so than the actual natural looks of the model themselves. A model is a pallet for artists to utilize and often the trick is to find the right pallet. Some of them are naturally pretty looking packages without the artists help and some of them are chosen because they have the potential to jive very well with the will of the artist. Not to mention, as dappled said, your look might be the next big thing. Fashion designers are always looking for something to make their designs stand out, even if it is looking for unique looking models to model their designs.

    Really, models are just advertisers.

If you want to, I would say, contact the agencies and do some research on them to ensure that they are legit (don't just go to their website, look everywhere) but if not, at least accept the compliment ;)

Pretty normal, my girlfriend was scouted this way. I find most models ugly.

Some modelling agencies do scout girls on the street. I remember quite a few top models saying that is how they were approached. Often the look they are going for is quite striking. What you may see as ugly, they might think of as the next big thing.

How tall are you, by the way? If you're under about 5'9" then be wary. But if you are tall, they just might be genuine. Either way, be careful, and don't get yourself into vulnerable situations.

    • I'm around 5'90" actually! & I guess I'm just skinny model-like; yet, everybody would be way prettier than me.
