Is it normal that i usually initiate texting conversations?

(i'm a 25 female, and he's a 27 male) We've been friends on facebook, and before that xanga for years. Just awkwardly leaving comments and commenting back and forth every so often.

A few weeks ago we exchanged numbers after messaging each other a few times on facebook wondering why we've never talked or hung out. We started texting, and hanging out after that.

Usually who texted who was pretty equal then we got into this habit where i almost always texted him first. For some reason he thought by saying "i'll talk to you later" meant that i would in fact text him later. So i told him to just text anytime, though now i say "i'll talk to you soon," so he probably still thinks that.

I feel annoying and clingy even though he's told me countless times to text him whenever i want, that i'm not bothering him, etc.. Should i wait on him to text me?

Like you say, it's a habit. He's not texting because he knows you will. If it bothers you, then break that habit and stop texting first, leave it up to him to initiate.

I would not do this. He may misinterpret it as you not wanting to talk to him anymore.

If it really bothers you, the best thing you can do is just talk to him about it. Like, "Hey you know I always have to text you first - sometimes I get the impression that you're just not that interested. I know that you are, but I'd feel better if you tried to reach out to me every once in a while too."

He should be able to understand.
