Is it normal that i used to be homophobic?

I was Catholic up until the age of 13 and I was always told that being gay was wrong and unnatural. I found myself lashing out towards gay people and hating them... but I've obviously grown up and realize how ridiculous that was. I'm now an Atheist and have tons of gay friends who I love, but I still can't believe how stupid I was. I feel disappointed in myself even though I was young, I still think I should have known better. It just proves how easily religion can justify hate and ignorance.

Don't beat yourself up; you were young back then. It's great that you're open-minded now. It's better now than never right?

Its normal. I'm gay and I used to hate myself because I was told that being a homosexual was wrong. Now, I'm happy and atheist :)

I dont think your religion had anything to do with it and I think its mad lame that you threw that in there. I was an altar boy for years and did the whole catholic school thing. But more so, i was a young, aggressive teen punk who was homophobic based on just being a young boy trying to be 'a man'.

I think this was a self serving post, not meant to do anything or genuinely feel bad about gays, but give you a soapbox to bash religion.
