Is it normal that i use sharpies instead of lipstick?!?!

Lipstick just is weird. I use sharpies.
They seem to come in a bigger variety
of colors than lipstick, and they last waaay longer.
My friends think it's lipstain, and they always say I smell like sharpie. And sometimes for foundation I use flour because my skin is fairly light, but If i look tan, i mix a little with it. BUT ARE BOTH OF THESE RITUALS NORMAL? HARMLESS?
THANKS LOVE :D

please dont do this. the chemicals in sharpie markers are bad for you. you can find some alternatives to staining your lips.

you wont be happy when you have to have your lip cut up when you get cancer or something.

really, try other methods. koolaid can make some interesting colors that stain

All those wonderful inks / dyes in sharpies... sure go for it.. what the hell if you ruin your health.. As long as you're happy and think you are doing the right thing..
After all these cosmetic companies know nothing at all even though they make millions and millions of dollars profit each and every year..

You are most likely poisoning your lips.

  • I don't think the ink is good for your lips, why not try lipbalm or lipgloss instead?

And I see nothing wrong with flour except for it's not really meant to be used on the face as a powder.

I hope when you use your crayons - you're allowed to use crayons, aren't you - that you stay within the lines in your coloring book, eh..?

No one here has any sort of imagination once so ever! Close minded zombie answers. Some of the worlds greatest discoveries came from people using things differently than their invented intent. Bubble-wrap was originally intended for wallpaper. Ya.

The marker holds to your lips for days and doesnt blotch or ever run off onto anything ever... it's amazing and bright and actually looks like the color of your natural lips if done properly!

In fact there are many cosmetic manufacturers that are copying this idea by having a pre- marker/stain step to your lipstick application so that when your lipstick comes off the tone of your lips isnt wildly noticeable. ...

Personally I find most of these brands overpriced and not even as good as a sharpie.

However yes sharpies are Toxic so there is a danger there.... of course so are many many many lipstick brands. Do you actually know whats in your lipstick??? Doubtful half of you have half a clue!

So why not try to go for a non-toxic brand of permanent marker??? There are many out there in a zillion colors usually intended for kids. Some are even alcohol free so you don't need to worry about drying out your lips. Ecosmart world is one of the cleanest office supplies companies I know. Kind of place that has logos like "Our paper isnt meant for eating but you could if you want to." I assume this extends to their markers lol

Crayola scented markers have alcohol and arent permanent but you'll smell like strawberries instead of sharpie :)

Ps yes Ive done the Sharpie thing under lipstick with great results as bright red is my color. It works with maroons too and I bet lots of other colors if you can find the marker and matching lipstick color. The toxicity worried me so I changed to a non-toxic marker. Now I bet the toxicity is on par with any non-organic lipstick from a major cosmetic company. I always marker stain my lips before putting on lipstick.

I find it funny that everyone ragged on you for the toxicity in the markers yet no one commended you for the use of a very natural product like flour instead of makeup foundation. Their products all contain this: DMDM hydantoin
    BHUT (butylated hydroxytoluene)
    bronopol
    diazolidinyl urea
    sodium hydrozymethylglycinate
    imidazolidinyl urea
    methenamine
quarternium-15, Quaternium-18, Quaternium-26 ....And yours is all natural! Except the bleach of course but still less toxic Im sure than compared to any store bought foundation.

No reason not to use flour as foundation if it actually works with your complexion. Less costly and less toxic. Why the heck not?!

That should off set the higher toxins you get from sharpie lips! lol ;)

You aren't normal though! You're creative with great ideas.... just when you get an idea that works sometimes you need to develop it a bit more. And whatever you do: DONT LISTEN TO CLOSED MINDED HATERS!!!

.. Most of the people on this thread are the people that would say "You cant use bubble wrap as wallpaper! Thats not what it was meant for!" ;)

Frisbee's were meant for pies but one day someone picked one up and threw it and now we have leagues.

    Normal = Mediocre & Common

Be happy not to be one of these people.

    Uh uh. Stop immediately.
Sharpies are toxic and the skin on your lips is delicate and can easily be damaged.
This also means the sharpie can easily damage the tissue in the lips.
Same applies for face, but it isn't as dangerous because the skin is thicker.

Instead, there a many recipes for making crayons into lipstick, although if you do so, please use crayola crayons as they are non toxic.
As for skin, you can buy cheap-expensive powders at your local chemist and so stiles even supermarkets.

Whatever is on your mouth ends up into your mouth. Please use makeup instead of office and cooking supplies; I know it sounds like I'm making fun of you but trust me, I'm not. You need to use lipstick or maybe even a drop of olive or coconut oil on your lips if you want something more natural. And use foundation! Not flour. xD

Dont suggest sharpies contians harmful ingredients n-propanol, n-butanol, diacetone alcohol, xylene, and cresol

Dont suggest lipstick its been known to contain lead, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium and mercury and other toxic metals. These can accumulate in your fat cells over time causing health problems. And did you know that whale vomit is still used in different lipsticks around the world

lipstick ingredients are better suited for your lips. a sharpie could damage your lips after time. also theres a vaaaaaaast array of lipstick shades and textures. O.o quit it with markers thats just weird!

Inhaling the fumes from sharpie pens alone is dangerous, so I'd hate to imagine what putting sharpie on your MOUTH does. You really need to stop doing this! You're going to get serious brain damage.

People already said this i'm sure, but sharpies are loaded with chemicals. Might wanty to rethink that one, flour should be fine though

Talc on your face? Not really that much to worry about...

BUT SHARPIES?! Especially that close to your mouth, you'll be ingesting loads of terrible chemicals.

Please don't use Sharpies as make-up!
