Is it normal that i try to sleep but can not?

This has been happening to me more and more recently. The past couple weeks it has happened 3 times. Two weeks ago I was only able to get an hour and a half of sleep. I sat in bed for hours after waking up after only an hour and half. Every half hour I would try something else to try and help fall asleep, including reading, drinking milk, and moving to the couch in my living room. I gave up after 3 and half hours. The next time this happened I was not able to fall at all, and gave up after 5 hours. The third time this happened, it took 3 hours, but I was able to get 4 hours of sleep. I really am not that tired in the morning because I am young and fairly fit, but I worry that I will not be able to keep this up for long.

I think the key is not stressing over lack of sleep as this will just make it worse. When I can't sleep I tell myself that this happens to other people too, its not just you. And it also helps that I just simply accept the fact that I will fall asleep whenever I fall asleep and theres nothing that i can do to change that. It also helps to be thankful that I even have a bed and a place a time to sleep, helps me not to feel sorry for myself.

Your sleep cycle is shifting. Freakin anxiety can drive you nuts. Your loosing confidence in something and can't shut your brain off. I found a friend who could sex up hard and power pump me to death. She got my sleep cycle back in track. I miss that chick.

Perhaps it's because your mind is still active. Your body could be exhausted but if your mind is still active, it would be hard to fall asleep. You fall asleep when your mind is rested because if you lay down, your body is resting. So try to not think of anything (it's easier said then done, though) and perhaps focus on your breathing, then hopefully you should fall asleep. If this doesn't work, you should go see your doctor as I expect they could advise you to try some exercises before you go to bed. Good luck!

I have the same problem. Sometimes I end up tossing and turning multiple times during the night before I get even a wink of sleep. It's sort of an insomnia issue, but only in an every-once-in-awhile sense.
