Is it normal that i try to be open minded but i can't?

First let me say I live in a VERY conservative country. Everything out of the rule is given dirty looks. Homosexuality is still insanely discriminated here. Someone gay walking down the street is not something acceptable or normal for most people here. Let's not even talk about other stuff like transgenders, bisexuals, and whatever else there is. That said, I try to be open minded and accept everyone, but deep down I still discriminate a lot! The internet has made me very acceptant but whenever I am in real life situations my intolerant side comes out. I've stood out for gay people and bisexual ones but I can't really accept transgenders. I want to, but I just find it so unnatural. Does this happen to anyone else?

    Yeah it's very common to struggle to overcome prejudices. It's not always as simple as rationalising ourselves out of feelings that we think are 'wrong'. However as long as you can override the heart with the head, you can avoid saying or doing something you might regret. It's good you're trying to be better :)

    Going against what you've been raised to believe is certainly preferable to following things you think are wrong. I do think it can be hard to go against what you've been raised to believe, but if you're moving closer to what you believe in and think is open minded, then I think you're going in the right direction. Good for you.:)

    Yes. You have grown up within an extremely conservative society. However, IMHO you have realized that your discriminative feelings are not right, and try to accept everyone regardless of their sexual preferences, that is VERY cool. It will take some time, but sooner or later you will finally be accepting all the people, I promise. Good luck.

    Though it is natural for your childhood learned bias to surface.
    It is up to you as an adult to decide what is right or wrong.
    Try this trick next time you have these conflicts.
    Is there sonething in your own life real or imagined that others would bias against you for?
    Think of that thing, and treat these people as you would like to be treated.

    I am not saying this to piss anyone off but I think some people will just not except gays no matter what. I personally do not care and never saw it as a big deal. Conservative or not I do not believe people should discriminate for such things.

    However doing it in public or being sexually inappropriate should not permitted for anyone. Straight or gay. I don't think the internet can make you more excepting. You can hide your prejudice but you still have it.

    Even if you do not agree with it I do not think you should judge as long as no one is doing, or teaching any inappropriate behavior. I do not believe it has anything to do with how you raised since you have a free mind.

    You can choose to be a different person and you don't have to fallow everything you are taught. Not saying being conservative is bad but I think you hating gays is you not how you were raised. Now a flat out rebel just to defy your family means you are an idiot. However if you just happen to think differently that is all you.

    You do not have to be a mindless sheep. If you are an adult you are old enough to make up your own mind. So you can not really blame your upbringing since that is all you.

    It's normal. You get used to it. Took me a little while to get used to listening to my gay male friends tell butt sex stories the same way I'm used to listening to my straight male friends talk about fucking chicks. Fucking chicks.

      Is it normal for women to listen to men talking about fucking chicks? I always thought that was rude and inappropriate behavior especially in front of a female?
