Is it normal that i think that stupid people should be sterilised?

Eugenics is an idea that has been around for a long time but it's only recently that science is beginning to make it possible for people to screen their genetics. I don't understand why then, now that we are able to do this, we keep letting people breed however and with whomever they want.

There is this assumption out there, that the overall goal of life is to settle down, have a good job and raise a family, but where is it going? Where are we as a race going with this? It seems like we still haven't managed to get past the same directionless urge to survive and procreate that drives everything from bacteria and fungi, to mammals.

Surely it is time to take a step back and ask “what is the point?” We know about evolution (most of us do anyway), we know about genetics, we understand heredity etc. Why aren't we taking control of our own evolution on a species wide basis? Intelligence is what has us above the animals but evolution has gone as far as it can for humans. We no longer die if we are not smart enough, we have no natural predators.

We are stuck in a rut and we have stopped evolving, natural selection is redundant in today’s society. The kind of people that have the enormous families today are the religious zealots and welfare families. Are these the people that are going to lead us forward, the people that we want to populate the world with?

I think that it’s time for us to take control and get out of the evolutionary rut that we are in. I’m not saying that stupid people shouldn’t be allowed adopt kids, I just think that their genes need to be deleted from the gene pool. It makes sense if we want to evolve and get better as a race.

And yes, I do believe that a smarter race will be a better race. Religion has gotten us nowhere in terms of survival, in fact it has cost countless lives in ridiculous wars. Blind faith is not a badge to wear with honour, it’s blatant stupidity to accept anything without question.

Philosophers, scientists and mathematicians question everything and find answers through investigation. They are the people who have gotten us this far, we need more of them. Artists, poets, musicians and writers are also important for the emotional and social side of our humanity. I see excellence in these areas as a separate and highly important form of intelligence. We certainly don’t need any more idiots preaching crap written 2,000 years or more ago as a model for life today. It’s time to move on. Breed stupid people out of existence. Smarter is better.
Thats what I think... but is it normal?

Because the world needs stupid people to continue functioning. Because there's much more to life than raw iq. Because many of the world's most successful people aren't actually the most intelligent. Because intelligence is heavily influenced by environmental factors, such as poverty, meaning that this boils down to killing off the poor and uneducated. Because intelligence can also be a burden if it is present without the other traits necessary for a socially functional human, e.g. Autism. Because by artificially selecting for one trait at the cost of any others, you run the risk of allowing negative traits to proliferate. Because by defining intelligence and selecting for that particular definition you are actually confining it's development. Because intelligence is not strictly transmittable through generations: many geniuses have sired perfectly ordinary descendents, while savants may arise from the most unlikely places.

Stop hating stupid people. You are one.

To drive you have to have a license, to wed you need a license, to vote you have to register, to get a job you have to interview, to hunt, to get a gun, to freakin fish you need a license, but to procreate nothing at all. My cousin is the most irresponsible person I've ever met. She has had 6 kids in 8 years, none of which she cares for, my aunt adopted the first two and the other four are in foster care. I definatly feel that people like her need to be sterilised.

i completely agree however, first we need a scale to find out who is intelligent and who is not, as well as what types of intelligence are more important than others. and then theres the extremists, with every idea, there is always a hypocrite extremist that doesnt realize the harm they are actually doing. there will be people who believe this idealism to the point that they will start "exterminating" stupid people. while this way of "cleansing the world" would work, its just not that fair, stupid people have gotten their stupidity genetically so killing them isnt really fair, they didnt ask to be stupid. so you idea of sterilizing the idiots and morons of the world is the perfect idea however, you must always be aware of the extremists.

hell yea, the evolution has got stuck in a rut, everything youve said is true my friend, stupid people do sometimes eliminate themselves from the gene pool, by driving like idiots, picking fights they cant win etc, i think this is natures way of evening it out a bit

  • First of all mieoux the poster is a she, and a young she, who is in no hurry to have children, I'm pretty sure that doesn't count as "waiting".
Second of all the gene is not the driver behind development. If you had any clue about evolution you would know that evolution is a series of changes in response to the environment. This brings me on to my third point:
Nature/the gene is not a sentient thing that deliberately chooses to eject people from the gene pool.
Also, given that there is a global food shortage that worsens every day as the population grows at an ever increasing speed, the people that choose not to reproduce are actually doing society a favor.

Anxiety_sucks, ugly people don't detract from society and a predisposition for any behaviour type does not guarantee its manifestation. While carrying the gene for Huntington’s disease does guarantee its manifestation and is being selectively bred out of the population.

Last of all, there are so many different kinds of intelligence and so many genes for each of them, that the diversity of the human race could not be adversely affected. And just because Hitler was evil, doesn't mean everything he said was crap.

I think it should be based on income and how long they were well off. I am sure some of these basketball players are taking great care of their kids and are complete idiots. Not saying all athletes are stupid either. However some very rich people are really stupid and still make a good life for their family. Also if we go by intelligence I think we would have to go by psychology too. As in if someone who is remarkably intelligent is not also insane like "Ted bundy" for example.

    mieoux is right on.
and the reason people don't want to engage in controlled reproduction is because of where it could lead - earlier someone mentioned the nazi's - on one hand yes, get rid of the stupid people sounds great to me...on the other hand, it sounds a lot like hitler. after you get rid of the stupid people, maybe you should get rid of the ugly people too, and those who are predisposed to addiction, etc., etc. what you end up with is a lack of diversity - which doesn't usually bode well for a population's long-term survival.

The gene itself is the driver behind it's survival and development, not humans. A lot of people who think they are smart end up not having kids and their genes are removed from the gene pool, this means that nature (the gene) has determined that such a person's genes will not continue. In fact the more intelligent people think they are the fewer kids they have. It's not human logic that drives the development of the gene pool. I am guessing that the poster does not have kids, and since he is waiting and he probably end up not having kids, and if this happens, this poster's genes will be deleted from the gene pool. The poster needs to focus on why his own genes might be in danger of being deleted - why nature (the gene) might be motivated to remove him from the gene pool and less on what he thinks should be done with other people's genes.

I definitely agree! I see so many stupid people that should not be aloud to procreate!!!And religion is crap, it makes people believe there's a little old man in the sky and that he WATCHES over us all the time!STUPID!i know places where that faith could get you killed, especially the old farts.they run over each other like animals for a bottle of holy water!!!i say Holy S**T!

Genetic engineering makes some of the stuff the nazis were screaming make sense actually. Kind of scary, but give us 100 more years and we could be looking at human 2.0 :| a new master race could emerge or something

I agree I agree! But unfortunately there's the problem of "discrimination" and deciding who is smart and who isn't.

And especially since having children is everyone's natural goal in life, taking that away from people would be absolutely devastating.

    But I do agree.
