Is it normal that i think my girlfriend is a compulsive liar?

She always says she is sick or has cancer or something, Yet she rarely missed school or anything. She told me she had heart problems and did come to school with a heart monitor once so i do kind of believe but not completely. Is it normal?

I'm sure someone can verify the truth if you ask, like a family member. Compulsive lying is a health problem too. A mental health problem.

You need to talk to her, if you have to, talk to her parents aswell. Figure out the truth and then act on it. Whether it's helping her issue if she turns out to be a liar or support her if it's true or leave her. But find out the truth rather than judge, no matter how unlikely things may seem.

Remember the sign-up to IIN? People come with stories you might not believe, but we need to stand above that and try to help. You need to do that for her aswell.

There are lots of reasons for lying. Compulsive lying is relatively rare, and I know this because basically every word that leaves my mouth is complete bullcrap.

Garden variety hypochondria sounds like a more feasible explanation, or possibly Münchhausen Syndrome. Other explanations abound, as well. Compulsive lying isn't just lying a bunch. Lying a bunch just makes you a fucking liar.

If she says she has cancer, and your immediate thought is "she's making that up because she doesn't miss school," you're a dick.

Not just because she doesnt miss school..Like ill try to see her and call hospital and they have no record of her...she says its because she has a private room.

I'm pretty sure hospitals don't confirm or deny anything unless you have a legal reason to know. Something about doctor-patient confidentiality.

Sounds more like a hypochondriac than a liar.
Not someone you'd really want to spend a whole lot of your life with. If all the bitching about her ailments doesn't drive you to drink, then the medical bills surely will.

Someone who always believes that they have some kind of health problem, when they usually don't.

Some girls are like that. I have two friends like that, I just brush it off or try my best to look like I believe their lie... It's whatevs for me, but I would never date one of them.

  • What makes you think she is lying? Lots of sick people are still active. It is very important to stay active when you are sick.

She's probably got more problems than you'll have time to deal with if you want your own life to go in a positive direction... My advice is this: Don't get caught up in trying to figure out a girl's lies (or opposite for girls/guys) because if they really care, they'll go out of their way to be in contact. She's probably trying to nicely tell you she isn't interested. If that isn't true, she'll let you know, just don't wait around for her.

I would talk to her about it, and if it turns out she IS a compulsive liar, I wouldn't shun her for it but try to be there in a supportive manner to help her move past lying. If one is lying to such a degree, they are more likely than not, very uncomfortable on an emotional level. Try to help her emotionally, and try to build a support system and build a better relationship from it.

I know of people who go to work every day with terminal cancer. In retail. Being internally sick does not prevent you from continuing your life if you choose to push through it. She sounds like a brave and struggling girl. And for the record, you don't have to believe it. It's her medical problems, and she doesn't have to share them with you or prove them to you.

It's important to exercise when you have certain heart problems.

How do you know she is a compulsive liar? You could be mistaken after all, you 'think.' Doubting is just another step away from your relationship to tumble down. Maybe it's time to move on?

I would advise you to be careful how you approach this. I'm sure someone can tell you of this is true or not. You could ask her parents or, perhaps, bring your concerns up with a school official.

Being a compulsive liar isn't normal, regardless of who it is.
