Is it normal that i think my boss hates me?

I have been working at a store in a mall for about 3 months. Since my first week of work, one of my managers has hassled me. I came in with no job experience as a cashier and she was aware of that. She has reprimanded me for not handling money correctly, assumed that I knew how to do certain tasks or how to do certain in things in the store, and every time I am sent to the ailes, she critizices me for working too slow. I try to take my time and do a good job so everything will look neat, but apparently she wants a half-finished, sloppy job. Also, I am not allowed to keep any change customers give me b/c it's new "store policy",am not allowed to offer straws or matches to the customers even though other people offer them all the time, and I can't wear open-toed shoes even though I saw someone else wearing them a few days ago. is it normal to think she doesn't like me?

It makes me mad your manager is treating you this way! It is not okay. Especially if she's making you feel bad. If other employees are wearing opened toe shoes and able to hand out marches & straws why can't you?
You sound like a very sweet person and she's taking advantage of that. I have had employers like that and my biggest regret is that I never spoke up about it. I'm to shy to do that though. Seriously, it couldbe she's jealous of you!!
You should keep a journal and write in everything she has said or write how she's treated you. Then maybe you can talk to someone else about it too? Like the main boss, or if your manager and the head boss are close write the coperate office.
You shouldn't have to put up with this :-(

I think it's just the opposite. She probably has a crush on you and it's manifesting itself in this type of behavior. Next time she is laying in to you, just kiss her. (Yes I know you're both girls)

    • Aw, come on dude, I don't go that way. Plus she has let up, she's not mean like she used to be. Maybe she acted like that because I was new. I've been there a couple of months now.

I agree with above poster about keeping it un a diary/journal. If it continues try talking to them about it and if that doesn't help maybe go further but as for her telling u not to do/ wear certain things, do what she says but write it all down. If u arnt afraid to speak up try mentioning the fact that others are allowed

It is definitely normal to encounter asshole managers :] that's for sure. I'm sure its nothing personal so don't stress about it... some people unfortunately are impatient with new employees who are trying to learn the way their job is.

She does not expect you to do a bad job cleaning up, she expects you to work quickly and efficiently and still do a good job. People don't understand the concept of working fast and doing a good job. There is no reason to take 20 seconds straightening something when you can do it in 10 seconds by moving a little more quickly. It is up to you to catch on and do a good job, and any good retail manager is not going to put up with someone that does not try to make an impression.
As for wearing closed toed shoes, not handing out matches and not keeping change, that is what she asked you to do, so do it. It does not matter if others don't do it; this is your job and you are putting it on the line by being upset about following some rules.

What a loser! I know what you mean by the "work faster" complaint, It's so much better to just do it right, trust me.

  • I don't think she "hates" you, but I bet she's really annoyed by how high-maintenance you are as an employee. She could have her eye on you more than your other employees because she doesn't trust your level of competence yet. Eventually, when you start improving, she will most likely let up.

You need to learn to expect a lot of criticism if you have no work experience: You wouldn't learn to do things correctly without feedback.
