Is it normal that i think i'm in love with my best friend?

We've known each other for 4 years; well for 3. I've had a crush on her all this time, but recently she got out of a 6-month relationship and my feelings have just grown stronger. I can't tell if she likes me back, and there is no way I'm going to risk telling her my feelings or asking her out without knowing if she likes me too. We spend loads of time together (alone and with friends), meet and depart with a hug, and have our own little in-jokes. Recently at a small party she sat with her legs across my lap, and has started holding onto my arm when we share an umbrella. Is she just being practical in small spaces or does she like me?
*The other morning she turned up out of the blue having had an awful day and asked to have a shower at mine before going to work (because she'd cycled here from far away). We hugged (for a couple of minutes) and she said as she left that it was exactly what she needed.

Heh this is always a tough situation.

My advice is usually this: tell her calmly how you feel. If she doesn't like you (which she seems like she doesn't), then at least she knows and you can get over her.

Given that she is dating someone else though (especially right after a relationship) I don't think this is really something you would want to pursue. One, you could ruin the friendship, and two, you could end up heartbroken given her actions (especially the quote you put in there "sort of seeing" some guy).

There is plenty of fish in the sea. You'll be happier down the road, and you'll keep a friend in the process :)

Well, she told me today that she's "sort of seeing" this guy now. So case closed. Thanks though.

Sorry to have to tell you this...

    You are a friend.

If it could be more, it already would be. Enjoy it, you can never have enough friends.

That's what I'm worried about. She's one of my best friends, and while it's killing me not doing anything, I couldn't bear to live without her or be on bad terms with her.
