Is it normal that i think i could secretly be a genius?

I know it sounds like an easy question to say no to, but lately I've been thinking that it's possible a lot of us out there are geniuses in disguise. It's hard for me to explain, but I've been told in my past that I'm a very abstract thinker. However, oddly enough, people have also told me I can sometimes come across as very ditzy. This does not mean I daydream a lot, but I do tend to think of things on a more deeper level, and sometimes I feel like I think so much into something that the thing's I come up with are hard for people to understand. So what do you guys think? I know it might sound ridiculous, but I was just wondering if you think that it's normal to think of such a thing? Could people who come across as, hmm..., I don't know..., slow at processing things really be secret geniuses? I'm not saying I'm slow at processing things, but maybe those who are least expected to get on the honor roll have the answers that nobody has realized yet. (Of course none of us could be God.)But seriously, think about it.

You know that albert einstein failed miserably in school..... Tests or even societies perceptions rarely capture the intricacies of a truly intelligent mind. If you think you are above average, then accept it, and conquer the world!!!

Personally, it'd be very easy for me to define genius as an IQ score because my mind is pretty much ideally configured for IQ tests. The problem is this: the only thing those tests are checking for is the ability to analyse, spot patterns, and predict based upon given criteria.

For me, Salvador Dali is a genius twice over. First of all for his sheer natural painting ability. Secondly for what he can imagine and construct. Give him an IQ test, though, and I bet his results wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.

In short, the word "genius" even though it suits my vanity to define it the way it currently is, genuinely is far too narrowly defined.

  • Neither of the mentors in my life ever said they were genius even though it was painfully obvious to me and everyone around me who followed their lead.

So the fact that you point to yourself as brilliant tells me you're aren't. And if you are then let others do your bragging for you. Why should you need to blow your own horn?

It's part of human nature to see oneself as superior to one's peers, whether true or not we all in some part of our consciousness believe ourselves to be special; we don't see others' perspectives so we can never fully understand another. As such, we think what we are going through is different, unique but, in reality, it isn't at all. That's what this website is built on - the foundational beliefs each of us has that we're not like the others and a strange want to feel kinship, albeit anonymously, with our fellow seemingly-special people.

Anyway, yes, it is certainly normal.

Maybe. Most teenagers (I assume you are adolescent) think they're secretly smarter than everyone else.

Guess its normal people nowadays breed like rabits and their kids secretly think they are the chosen one just to distract themselves from thinking they're nothing but an unplanned mistake their parents made wen they were teenagers.

    • Yeah, I could see why you would think that. But my parents didn't have me when they were teenagers. They had me when they were married and well into their 20's. And my parents don't breed like rabbits. I was their third and last child.

Wrong move fuck'em, ya gotta think positive: but if you think you can, then try to be able to. I work on the confidence that I'm a genius and no one else is, great one fuck'em, and a little bit normal.

where are the people like you at and when can we all congregate together. I totally feel you. When someone can stimulate my mind, its an awesome feeling cause sometimes I just get bored of mindless chitchat. YOu are normal I think, I'm the same way.

Ha ha, we all process information differently. Being a ditz is a personality trait, and does not always indicate intelligence. However people of a really high intelligence tend to be socially awkward and don't look for validation. I do believe that we all have something to offer but it may not be brains.
