Is it normal that i think donations for poor countries is futile

Late at night or early in the morning, the donation commercials come on. They show poor hungry african kids or poor hungry indian or latin children that need food and tell sad stories about their poor life and how their parents don't have money, etc. Am I really the only one that doesn't shed a tear when this shit comes on? First of all, these poor parents without money should have known better, if they knew they were poor and they didn't have the money to care for themselves, why do they go and have 3,4,5,6,7,8,9, more kids!?!?!?!? We are suppose to fund their ignorance? We are suppose to feel sorry for these people because they keep having sex and popping out kids!? The way I see it, is the kids would just repeat the same cycle as their parents. Aren't the kids better off dying young than to live a long life starving most the time and barely living?

In those types of countries, it is difficult for them to have access to contraceptives. Instead of only giving them money and food, further causing dependence on services, there needs to be more program's that gives them the tools towards being self-reliant. There's only one organisation that I know of that dies this. JUST ONE! I've donated to them but, I can't remember their name. It's great charity.

Lets not forget that in a lot of third world countries, women are forced into marriages at 12 and forcibly raped, and it a lot of Africa women are raped on a daily basis. So, a lot of babies are due to forced sex. Another reason people have a lot of babies is because half of them don't survive to adulthood.

You are assuming that people from every country have the same education and intuition as people in developed Westernized countries. They do not. A lot of our knowledge are acquired from our school systems, and many people in poorer countries do not have the chance to go to school. Saying "these poor parents without money should have known better" is quite ignorant and unempathetic considering that a whole lot of them DON'T know better due to lack of education. Not everyone in the world has sex-ed

But yes, I do agree that throwing money at them is a bad idea. The problem with it is that constantly giving money to the poor will make them lose motivation and eventually turn them into leeches. This has happened in poorer countries, where instead of trying to find work they just beg and beg. That's why we should invest more in education for poorer countries, rather than just doing the same "sponsor a child" over and over again.

More to the point, food aid on a regular basis screws over local farmers, rendering domestic agriculture ineffective and making people dependent on foreign aid.

  • I live in SA, so I know aaaaall about the starving kids. They're africans living in rural dwellings who don't even have electricity, but they keep popping out kids and tax payers are expected to provide for these kids. I say steralise the fuckers at birth.

I wouldn't say its futile but if you feel that way, I understand how it seems that way.
I prefer to donate to people I meet in person, but I have given money overseas. Does it really help? Who knows but at least I tried.
