Is it normal that i think bach rocks?

I play keyboard and compose music so I'm a little nuts by definition. All my life I have loved the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, everything from his toccatas to his cantatas, suites, keyboard concertos, and the great Mass in B minor.

I rarely meet anyone else who likes the same thing with the exception of second girl friend, the daughter of a Parisian concert pianist and a Cuban band leader who migrated to the USA many years ago. We got along so well that she came to be my best friend as well as the best lover I ever knew.

Is it normal for a guy like me to rock to Bach who lived from 1685 to 1750?

I can relate to you completely. I am deeply passionate about Classical Music, mostly Baroque. Bach is definitely my favorite Baroque Composer (along with Vivaldi). I enjoy his pieces very much, some of them being the -

    1) Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (Disputed)
    2) Air on the G String
    3) Double Violin Concerto in D Minor
    4) Sonata No.5 in F Minor
    5) Mass in B Minor: Agnus Dei

In the world of great Classical Music, no one has produced such music that is so intellectually deep, technically demanding and so artistically beautiful as Bach. Definitely nothing wrong about admiring a deceased genius.

Bach's music is so fundamental to me. I'm also fascinated by mathematics, analytical statistics in particular. I see Bach's music almost as mathematics in sound. There are no special effects, no glissandos, no smoke or flashing lights, just pure tonal relationships arranged with a genius that defies the imagination.

Beethoven was clever in a different way because he played with themes or motifs which he would juxtapose in unexpected places even from one movement to another. He was imaginative in a larger context which wasn't as purely mathematical.

Mozart? Not the kind of guy you'd have a beer with, but possibly the greatest genius musically, although you'll get a lot of arguments for Bach.

(1999) Why is it few ever mention his cello suites specifically? I love those.

It's possible to find beauty in any kind of music. That being said it's not like to have to look for it when it comes to Bach. He has definitely composed some beautiful pieces.

You should walk around in public with a ghetto blaster and your favorite keyboard CD. Be a Bach thug.

Beethoven would work well on your car radio with the big boom blaster. He used very wide dynamics.

    Yes yes yes, absolutely yes!

I got into Classical over a year ago and really enjoy it. Currently I listen to Mozart and Beethoven a lot and am always open about listening to more! Needless to say ''I'll be Bach.....for more''

Of course it's normal to like Bach! Hell, Nicky Minaj is liked and she's not half the artist Bach is.

Normal? No. But it ought to be.

I don't have my piano anymore, but once in a while when I go to visit my friend I always enjoy playing the well-tempered clavier. Prelude and Fugue no.14 is my favourite.

Also, I'm a huge Glenn Gould fan, and I don't think anyone ever played Bach better than he did.

Glenn was often criticized but He was really in a class by himself as far as I was concerned.

Oh, I'm aware of that. The constant humming (sometimes out of tune), the creaking home-made chair throughout the entire recording, insanely sped up or slowed down pieces, general weirdness. There's a lot to criticize, actually. But there is no other musician that makes me miss my train stations and walk into lamp posts.

From what I've heard, I love him. And what do you mean, nuts by definition? What's weird about playing keyboard?

It's an old joke. But I have recently heard people in a piano teaching class joking about musicians being crazy. Some of these people played in large, prestigious orchestras such as the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra.

Ah right, I had no idea:D. I was just a bit confused, I've never heard that before.

Mozart and Beethoven are close seconds for me also.

Are you kidding me? Genius. The only composers I can play without sheet music are Bach, Prokofiev, and Paganini. Sorry Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Mozart. I love you too. But I do love Bach!
