Is it normal that i sometimes call my dad babe and my boyfriend dad?

Okay, it feels very weird when i do this, like it creeped me the hell out the first couple times i did it. Ill be talking to my boyfriend for a while on the phone or either when he's at my house. My dad will walk in and start talking to me about something and I'd say something like idk babe, i mean idk dad! really quickly hoping he didn't noticed what i say the first time. I didn't mean to say it though it just comes out. Or if my talking to my dad and then i go upstairs and start spending more time with my bf, we'll be having a conversation and i'll mistakenly call him dad responding to something he said. I find it really creepy what does this mean?

Of course, this is a much watered-down situation, but basically it's Sigmund Freud (a psychological theorist) who believed we as humans innately have strong emotional tendencies to his or her parent of the opposite sex (for males, it's called the Oedipus Complex). And then, once paired with the Freudian slip (the subconscious verbal intentions "slipping out".. so what your brain actually means to say), it psychologically makes sense :)

It's normal, especially if your bf has a lot of characteristics as your dad, and you obviously feel the same level of comfort with your bf as you do with your father, and that's not uncommon. I sometimes would almost call my bf my cousins name, that is because I lived with my cousin for seven months, and when I got pregnant, I moved in with my bf. My cousin was more like a big brother to me, and my bf is 7 years older than me. If you come from a good family and you have good rapport, it is common to start a relationship with someone that makes you feel a similar chord of comfort as you feel with your family. Don't feel bad, just try not to make it a habit, think before you say anything in response to your father or boyfriend. Besides, doesn't the saying go: "daughters marry their fathers, and boys marry their mother's"???

I do the same thing!!! I freaked out the first couple times. But I think I just switch up the names. Especially if I'm thinking about the other and a conversation we had ill accidentally call my bf dad.

happens. I had an uncle that sometimes got called the dog's name (my grandma always felt awful when she did that, but after a certain number of children, the names probably start to get easier to smudge together)

It happens it's like getting someones name wrong.

It depends on what you are thinking about at the time.
