Is it normal that i seem unable to think of serious matters?

I like to make jokes and pranks, a lot.
I like to make my friends laugh and throw witty insults at people I don't like, and I like to hug people a lot.
I like to collect dolls, dress up in frilly clothes, watch comedy or b-movies and do probably too many frivolous things.

That's where the problem comes in.

Whenever a conversation comes up of something serious or important, such as politics, world events, or religion, I find myself unable to take part in it. Even thinking of such things makes me anxious and feeling stupid. Though I know I am capable of it, sometimes thinking seriously or philosophically, even with just myself, leaves me depressed or feeling hopeless.

Is this normal?

Are you fond of toilet humor as well? I love talkin' bout poop. I love my Siamese cat, my sister's poodle, nature, art, music, cartoons, comedy central, and educational documentaries among other things, but put me in a business meeting of most any kind and my eyes just glaze over.

I'm very similar. I've been this way my whole life because I'm incapable of taking anything seriously. This life, the world, it's people, it's all too bloody serious and too many people have lost that happiness and fun in themselves. It's our job to keep people laughing and smiling. You feel crappy because you don't wish to keep in with the serious side of life, that's just fine. Can you keep up? Yes. Do you choose to? No. Do I? Yes. You just have to train yourself to fight through it and engage in these conversations, if you really want to. It took me four years to become comfortable joining in and keeping up with these things. I still ignore politics, but your witty or mild comedic spins on serious topics can be refreshing. If you're really intent on embracing a seriousness, it's all about self-control. Stop, listen to where the conversation is going, ignore your urge to say "that's what he/she said" pick your entry point and jump in. In time that stupidity you feel will drown away one way or the other. The key is to be comfortable with you. Accept it. Your uncertainty within yourself is the cause of you negative feelings.

Agreed life is too serious. Let everyone else worry themselves into heart attacks and early graves.

Besides talking about politics is incredibly stupid as nobody even has a say in what happens, even when you vote.

For the philosophy stuff, smoke some dank and it'll come to you.
