Is it normal that i see things and people in my house at night?

For about 13 years, I've had terrible - what I call - "night terrors". The first one I remember was when I just turned 18. I was laying in my bed trying to fall asleep, and I saw something moving in the top of my closet. Terrified, I laid totally still. I realized shortly thereafter that it was a bird, and it flew from my closet right at me, landing on my pillow beside my head. I felt it flapping in my hair. I jumped from bed and ran to my parent's room, insisting that my dad get the bird out of my room.

There was no bird.

After that, it's happened hundreds, if not thousands, of times. I see/feel spiders/bugs/animals on me, dead flowers and/or dismembered body parts on the bed with me... I see people in my room, sometimes weilding knives, sometimes just standing and staring at me. They're always shadowy... Never detailed. Sometimes I'll see people moving in the pictures hanging on my bedroom walls. I remember one night at a hotel (with a roomate from work), I saw a dead body covered in dead flowers, propped up on the wall beside my bed. I didn't scream until I felt the weight of the body fall on me... His face was clear - the one time I can remember details of a face.

It terrifies me.

I generally wake up screaming. My husband used to jump up every time, worried... Now he just calmly says "go back to sleep", because he's so used to it.

So, what do you think? Is it normal?

I feel sorry for you. One night of sleep paralysis is bad enough. ):

It's actually fairly common for teenaged girls to see things like this. Usually not that vivid. Me and my sister have simmilar things like that happen. What it is is demons. If your religious pray. Every time I see ones that freak me out I pray, that seems to make them not appear as often and it always makes a little safer. If your not religious then you might consider getting closer to what ever your religion is.

No drugs or alcohol are ever involved. I barely ever even take a Motrin if I have a headache.

i will pray for you sweetie! i hope you get relief from this soon. you should get a sleep study done and see if you are getting normal sleep. a combination of anxiety and improper sleep can cause these types of visions in my experience. the horrific level of yours sounds like ptsd - i had some like that after 9/11 for example.

  • You definitely should pray about it. But I'm guessing that you are actually asleep and that your brain is in the state of having a dream. You may be snapping in and out of the dreaming which would cause you to think it's actually happening. Hope that helps :)

Yes, it is normal if you smoke salvia while dissolving acid on your tongue before going to bed.
