Is it normal that i see people doing things they don't see themselves?

I'm in customer service. I see a hundred personalities come thru here each day, so I'm able to kind of catch synchronicities in human social behaviors. Like sometimes I'll see the whole monkey-see-monkey-do thing. The other day we didn't have something a guest requested. We apologized. But then right after that I saw this dude walk past the desk like 4 times just hypin' himself up & waiting for the right time to finally come and "blow up" on the manager(a REAL "blow-up" is impulse, not premeditated). Like he mentally pumped himself up for confrontation, and then comes quoting krunk shit he heard from Jersey Shore or wherever! Wtf is this petty need to prove to yourself that you can get all ghetto on somebody if you need to? Quiz yourself; how often do YOU battle your own confrontational issues in broad daylight? And if you don't, please tell me you see the other easily influenced fucktards doing it.

Classic case of people not having a back bone, so they try to act like some bad ass when they know someone can't fight back. Pussy like mentality. It's like taunting a dog when you know it's chained up. Pathetic.

It is my job to resolve complaints. I get the cranky people at the peak of blow up and have to diffuse them. Fortunately I am good at my job. Although some days people refuse to take a kindness as a genuine kindness.

Just nod and smile - BUT do not say sorry!!

What would you be sorry for? They should be sorry for being so rude to you. Plan your responses so that you don't ever apologise to these @ssholes, then they can't go home thinking they got one over on you. They'll not realise you didn't apologise until they get home. Find other words, "I'm sure we'll get a replacement in for you soon. OR There must have been a mix-up in the store..."

Read 'The Nice Factor' and learn to stand up for yourself.

Joybird... you're offering irrelevant advice. I do not need help with my ego v.s. theirs, I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, which is laughing in their fucking face... it really rips the rug out from under them. What I'm asking is if everyone else will please join me in doing so to ANYONE who gets 'krunk' with customer service reps, bus drivers, and anyone else involved in helping people. MTV and other dumbass stations are influencing a cultlike following of people who try to boost their ego's by doing something as pathetic as bitching out someone who can't kick their ass for it without getting fired.

  • Honestly they're looking for a reaction out if you. They're just people. Just a man, just a woman, not god not royalty . Just say sorry. That's all you can do and leave it be. It's hard but the more and more you deal with these kind of people this way, the easier and less stressed your job will become. be at ease with yourself and others and your job will be ten times easier I promise!

Thankyou Dr. Phil LOL honestly the only thing that needs to happen to these people, is to be LAUGHED AT. Too many of their friends and TV shows glorify this retarded behavior and try to make public ranting this cool thing to do. People who aren't afraid of confrontation don't go around trying to prove they can be confrontational. Period.

Yeah the issue here isn't the people's affect on my day at all, it's exactly as Inspector said- they are so inclined to prove something to themselves that they actually quote arguments they hear on fuckin MTV. Tell the guys who wrote the english dictionary we need a new word for pathetic... something more profound lol.

Like howaminotmyself, I have been in a job where I had people losing their rag at me for something that wasn't my fault at all. You stay calm, let them blow themselves out, and don't take a single word of it personally. They feel better, you don't care, and you've done a part of your job that isn't advertised or even expected.

If they have issues, it's their problem. If you let it affect you, it becomes your problem.
