Is it normal that i say "hi" whenever i see my friend

I saw my friend today. Her name is Debbie and I don't know if this will help, but she is 16 with short blonde hair, brown eyes and she is 5'4. (To help answer questions, I have brown hair,blue eyes and I'm 5'6) During school, I noticed her in the halls and out of pure adrenaline I greeted her with a formal "hi". I was wondering if this was normal, because no one ever says hi to me anymore (not since the "incident") and I don't want to lose my only friend. She did not reply and simply walked away so that is why I am deeply concerned. Is saying hi still acceptable in 2017?

    I have no idea why anyone would think it's not acceptable. Show people that you enjoy being social, we all need friends. It's part of what makes us human. There aren't enough polite people out there anymore.

    I have no idea how height, eye or hair colour have any relevance to anything.
