Is it normal that i saw working fast food as a last resort?

So I moved to a new state two years ago to go to college and I needed a job, badly. I put in 10-20 applications a day, talked to everyone I knew and followed every lead that I could. Looking for a job was my full time job for two months.

I finally found a decent full time job. But I wouldn't apply to fast food unless I absolutely ran out of places to apply. I worked fast food before and my Mom manages a fast food joint and in my experience, the job is crap, the hours suck, you're as disposable as the napkins, and the people you work with... I'll just leave it at that.

I'm not a spoiled rich kid, nor do I have anything against people who work in fast food, but I don't want to work in what is usually a really shitty working environment if I can help it. Is it normal?

Dude, I understand your hatred about working at a fast food restaurant. However, until something greater comes along...it is a source of income. You're young, so at this moment...it's only a JOB and not a CAREER! Be courteous, do your job well...and go home!

It's normal to want more for yourself. But you need the money badly and you're not to proud to work in fast food. That's also normal.

It is not just fast food. Early in my work life I had all kinds of crummy jobs any one of which was better than NOT having a crummy job! :)

It seems the worse the pay, the more you have to endure in lousy work and working conditions. Those jobs need to be done and I wish people in them would unionize to force better pay, benefits and working conditions.

It's normal. The pay isn't good, and places that focus on hiring teenagers often do so because teenagers are less likely to know their rights and stand up for themselves.

A job like that you actually have to be smiley and good at it in order to get recognition. It's always the shittiest positions that actually treat their employees equally. In a bad way.

    I think most people do.

I think most people do. The wages are poor and working conditions aren't always the best.

Fast food workers are basically the lowest on the totem poll of jobs.

Ha I'm exactly the same way and I've been lucky enough to not have to work at a fast food joint. I worked at a dry cleaners in high school and then a pharmacy through college. Good luck finding a job though.

Haha, no I got a job in security so I didn't have to worry about applying for fast food. I just wasn't going to do it until I was all out of options.

Totally agree. I will be job hunting like mad next month but I will not be applying for any fast food places. I am certainly not a spoiled rich kid either. But for me there's a line and working in fast food or Lidl is just past that line.
