Is it normal that i said this stuff about my parents?
On the nineteenth, I was chatting with a girl that I'd recently met. (We'll call her Lily for this.)
I haven't actually known her that well, but we were both sitting out for Gym, so I thought, why don't we have a discussion? One thing led to another, and eventually, we were talking about our families. She told me about how she plans to be a lawyer and how her sister is a really nice girl, along with her parents. She then told me that she disagrees with spanking when your parents are still angry, and that she thinks spanking should teach kids something. As she said this, I thought about how when I was around three years old, my mother would spank me or smack my leg when she was angry with me; of course, that hurt quite a bit, but my mom would often write it off and tell me that I was over exaggerating if I told her how badly it hurt. Thinking about that made me angry, and I don't know how, but I ended up telling my friend Lily about those incidents, and how my mom had done things in the past like forcing me to go to an engineering program that I disliked.
When it came down to our fathers, she was, once again, telling me about how close she and her father are; at this point, I was just really kind of upset, since my father doesn't even know what my favorite food is. I ended up admitting this to her.
Now, I really don't know why I even brought up the bad sides of my parents. I don't feel like that should've been her first impression of them, since there are also really good things about them.
I feel really guilty about this; in fact, I actually just cried about it and begged God for forgiveness. I can't believe that I said this stuff, and nothing excuses what I've said. I shouldn't have focused on the bad stuff about my parents. I should've told my friend about how my mom's a funny, hardworking, woman, or how my dad is a nice man. I shouldn't have talked about the bad stuff.
On Monday, when I go back to school, I'm going to start trying to correct my behavior. I'm going to start talking more about how much my mom made me laugh this weekend, or how nice my dad is. I'm going to try and make sure that my friend knows that there is more than one side to my parents.
Is this normal? Have you ever done anything like this?
