Is it normal that i rub certain fabrics with my fingers?

As long as I can remember I have always done what I call "my habit" it is two certain types of fabrics. One is a tshirt type that i rub inbetween my fingers, so much so that it is actually leaving calluses on my fingers. the other type i rub on my cuticles. I do it when ever I feel like it, but my boyfriend says I should stop because its making my hands look weird.

      im getting callus's from rubbing so hard.
