Is it normal that i remember new words by imagining..

By imagining the word in my mind alongside the written word? For example, say I'm trying to remember the word for 'orange' in Spanish. I will think of an orange walking around holding up the word 'naranja' dancing or doing whatever then I imagine the little orange guy smashing the word onto the ground and it blowing up.

Whatever works man. I can usually only remember things if I can associate it to something I already know or it has to be repetition repetition repetition

    • I was trying to memorize some phrases in another language and the only one I can say automatically without thinking about it is a perverted one I found funny.

Haha that would be the one I remembered too. I'm sick I tell ya! And birthdays. I always remember birthdays. There's a few people on here who just may get a happy birthday from me and they will be confused about it. Sorry people I can't help it

Whatever works. I tend to look for the Latin, Greek or Saxon roots of the word. It's like a little key that can help you understand what a word means even if you've never heard it before.

  • Ha ha ha, cute image. XD

For terms/definitions that are not sticking, I do the same only I draw out pictures on flashcards of stick-men acting out the definition of the term. Whatever works, right. :S
