Is it normal that i refuse to eat food near plants?

Perhaps "refuse" is a strong word, because I will (at times) eat food near plants. However, the circumstances MUST be right or else I get this horrible sensation of discomfort. Since I was little my parents would make a nice dinner for the four of us, and if there was a plant or flowers on the table I would insist to eat inside or have the plant removed.

If it is something like a candy bar or something packaged then I don't get this sensation. (Probably because the food is protected.)

I started to wonder if I felt this way because of things like bugs. I will imagine them dropping into to my food from the plants. I also don't like the open air (outside) touching my food either but also because of bugs that might fly into my food undetected.

I felt this way after reading John Wyndham's post-apocalyptic novel "Day of the Triffids" about mobile meat-eating plants like twelve-foot tall Venus Fly Traps that developed a taste for human flesh.

Since that day, I've never turned my back on a pansy.

Lol, trust me. I think about it all the time....

One time, I opened up a butterfinger (my favorite) and I took a bite. As I sat, closing my eyes trying to make the moment last forever, I felt something crawling on my hand. I opened my eyes.......from the candy bar stuck an ant like a golf tee with its face attached to my candy bar and its nasty little legs kicking in the air.

I stopped chewing and stared for a moment....as I began to peel away the rest of the wrapper, DOZENS of ants (some dead and some alive) infested the inside of the wrapper.

Immediately, I hucked the candy bar at the floor and started spitting. I have been afraid to buy another candy bar ever since that day. And to think....I already worried about what kinds of things ended up in there during processing.

LOL! I've had things like this happen to me before, like leaving a soda can out too long, and endinng up with ants, or bees in my mouth.

Maybe you have a odd paronia that the plant wants your food. That or maybe you have it somewhere in your mind that plants will crawl out into your food.

I understand what you mean. But sometimes when you want to enjoy yourself its best to not think about stuff like that cause it will make you paranoid.

i think it depends what kind of plant. i may be a little hesitant to eat next to some algae or some aquatic plant as i do not like water in my food. lol somehow i dont really think bodies of water apply to this lol. anyway no i can eat around trees and i would probably still eat it even if a small bug did fall on it. (such as an ant) but i wouldnt if it looks dangerous or i know it may be dangerous. but thats just me. is this normal? xD

Dude, I feel just like you.
Every time I'm sitting next to a plant I get the creeps and I always feel like the plant is staring at me, watching my behavior, I can't stand it!!

Plants ARE alive, and respond well to sounds. So I understand you.

A phobia or do you feel like they have feelings? It's normal. My indoor plants are on high places, but some carry a thick "order":/ I guess this is like my discomfort at rating when other people are present. I usually refuse to eat with others, but sometimes it can't be avoided:/
